• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I did a quick preliminary search, and will continue to look (just wanted to get this posted to help in the search effort).

I remember reading somewhere that one of the newer APX firmware releases now prevents the non-affiliate scan method and sends packets anyways. Does anyone know which version this starts in?

I can tell you for a fact that whoever started that rumor had no clue what they were talking about.

Yes, I've seen posts about it myself, including by a few in these forums. Those misinformed people either misread a firmware release note, or are talking out of their backsides.

One of the luxuries of having access to a whole bunch of APX radios of all models and types, as well as having admin access to a Motorola ASTRO 25 Phase II system, is that you get to test out all this stuff to see how it works in the real world. This includes having the freedom to test out cloned IDs, affiliations, and all manner of things because, simply, it's your system and you can do what you like.

I've tested out every firmware from R10 to the most current R16.23.00 with the non-affiliate method, and never once has any APX radio been "forced" to affiliate when it was setup properly. Not one time, not on the latest firmware, to the contrary of what some claim has been changed to force this behavior.

Thank you for the quick response! I want to upgraded to the latest R16.23.00 as I'm running R14.50.00; the backlight display colors and the digital evacuation tone are sellers for me. But I didn't want to lose the ability to N-AS other systems.

As of R16.23.00, a properly programmed APX using the non-affiliate method will not affiliate. There is nothing in the firmware or CPS that forces affiliation.

Note that some of the features you're talking about require CPS R16.

Also note that the backlight display colors only apply to the top display of a portable. The only colors available are White, Red, Green, or Orange.

Thank you for the clarification guys.

I stayed on R14 due to seeing someone post that 15 had issues with non affiliate scan.

Thank you for the clarification guys.

You can upgrade to latest without a problem.

We can confirm that a properly programmed radio with R16.23.00 will not affiliate on a local demo system running a 7.17 core. (Why are the GTR 8000 turnkey subsystems so expensive!!!!!)

so we have APX radios on our system and i'm wondering how you would set it up to non affiliate scan? Can someone message me or help with this?

You have bumped a nearly 5 month old discussion, just to ask something that is for personal gain and has been asked over and over on these forums. The least courtesy you can have is open a thread.

There is information on this forum, multiple times, that go step by step, on how to do this with the ASTRO 25 CPS. A pinned announcement in this sub-forum provides a link to one such discussion with instructions. There are even multiple video tutorials if you like doing by watching instead of reading.
