To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,
When Motorola released R28 they added the "QCII Decode" feature which allowed for simultaneous encode/decode of MDC and QCII on the same channel, as well as modify the alert tones for each tone set. I have updated several radios in hopes to get this feature active on several FD APX6000s, however I have not had any luck. I have found where you can set the tones to decode for each system, and where you can set the custom alert tones. Instant Recall has also been disabled, however the tones still will not "trip" the radio. They are the same tones from the Dept.'s Minitor VIs, which activate without issue.

Is there a hidden step here somewhere that I am missing in the CPS?

Thanks in advance.

not entirely sure but I believe this requires the "Digital tone signaling" feature or P25 Tone Paging. Even though this is going on an analog channel. I may not have read the notes correctly though.

It was brought to analog channels with this update, which is why I can't figure out why it won't trigger.

Straight from the R28.30 release notes under New Features:

Abstract: Encode/Decode QCII and Encode/Decode MDC Voice On the Same Channel System Platforms Affected: APX and APX NEXT (Does not include APX N30/N50) Special Configurations: This feature can't be enabled with Instant Recall. Description: This feature provides the ability to decode and encode QCII as well as encode/decode MDC all on the same channel. It also allows the access to select from all of the different feedback alert tones available in Digital Tone Signaling in Analog.

I will update to R28.30 as well, especially with all the reported bugs. However, I believe I fixed it with disabling the instant recall feature. Apparently taking "RCNT" out of the menu options is not enough, you have to disable the recording time as well by putting a "0" in for seconds.

I've tried this on a few APX portables, all of which have QA09000 Digital Tone Signaling in the flash. They all alert just fine over P25 trunking, however I cannot get them to alert on analog frequencies using the Tone Signaling parameters. I can get them to alert the "old" way by setting up the QCII conventional personality, but then you only get the two soft beeps when alerting.

All radios are at FW R28.31.00 and were programmed with CPS R28.00.03, so they're at the latest and greatest.

I think it's a bug...something MSI forgot to enable in the firmware to get the analog channel to alert based on the digital tone signaling parameters that are setup. That or I'm completely misinterpreting the release notes where it states "It also allows the access to select from all of the different feedback alert tones available in Digital Tone Signaling in Analog.", because so far that ain't working.

Our AN mobiles are not alerting on P25 Trunking either. This started with 28.31 and worked fine on the previous buggy firmware versions.

Ditto. I have not been able to get the signaling tones to work in analog, even though Motherola claims it works. I'd love to have those tones actually work, as the two soft beeps just don't cut it.
