• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Good morning, all.

I have noticed with all versions of APX CPS that you need to type the channel name in 2 different locations. once in the personality, then again when you assign that channel to a zone.

The cpg i am writing has over 200 channels/talkgroups, and am amazed that the channel name does not carry over into the zone channel name.

Am i missing something?

Two different records / tables, CPS can't and won't assume how / where you want things.

I can only surmise that CPS is designed by people with an axe to grind. In the QAQC world, the basic rule of thumb is to determine what it is your customers require, then do just that. Anything more yields very little in terms of increased customer satisfaction. Anything less results in a significant increase in customer dissatisfaction. The problem is the CPS people aren't using an effective methodology to determine the customer requirements. They probably aren't asking anybody who uses the software what it is they actually need.

Auto-populating fields in software are a thing. CPS could and should make some intelligent decisions about things like this. Top Display Channel Name being one of the more infuriating ones.

It's not reasonable to carve out a day to build a minimal codeplug, and a week to build a complex one. The restrictions on cloning and copying based on mismatched flash code and model numbers are dumb and a little work and ingenuity could make that experience much better.

The software runs like a pig. It's slow, cumbersome, and annoying. Clicking on things should not take 15 seconds to refresh the viewport.

I could go on and on.

APX CPS sucks.

If it is that big of a deal....You do not have to fill out the personality name, leave it default.

I personally like APX CPS, yes there are some things that could make it flow better. But I like that it is very configurable.
I run CPS on a computer that exceeds minimum specs. And have no issues with lag. An SSD makes most any software better.

gotta love the fact it was designed on an 85inch monitor and using a laptop requires you to scroll 10 miles to the right haha

and you can auto populate fields that might be the same using right click ---> fill down.. thats about it otherwise.... get ready for lots of typing, clicking, cutting and pasting, and your folks to get mad for hogging up the TV potentially hahah

You can resize the fields that you don’t use so things will fit on the screen.

Of course, given that this is Motorola, you have to do it each and every time you run CPS.
