• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Has anyone ever found a source for just the Vol switch for the APX6000 radios?

Of course you can get it by buying the control top (NHN7015E) but kind of leaves
a bad taste in the mouth, shelling out $1,133.62 for essentially just the switch..

I did some research several years ago, and as I recall it was very hard to track down this particular part.
And I contacted the company, but never got a response. (and wondering if Motorola may even have a stake in the company)

Is this an APX6000li AN? Those are notorious for loose volume knobs. We send ours to Sunny Communications in Colorado, they have fixed probably a dozen of them for us at $650 a piece. They come back as tight and reliable as the BN APX6000.

The part is an OEM contract part and the supplier will not sell them to anyone else. Gotta love the fix being in. Sunny's does good work. Being the AN's are off the support matrix, you're on your own to source a repair/replacement.

There are reputable radio parts websites out there that sell the Top Control Module for about $300-400. If you know someone with experience repairing electronics, it's really not that hard to replace. In fact, I'm pretty sure there is a YouTube video or two out there that show you the steps to disassemble. As was stated above, that radio is well outside the window for Mother M to repair it, so you really don't have much to lose! I've personally done 3 or 4 of these swaps for that exact reason. You can even get away with not using the spanner they tell you to use if you have a pair of snap ring pliers.

Been a few years but there was a guy in UK KNICKERLESSPARSONS I think was his name who got me Motorola parts such as APX chassis and top heads oem new at half or less than I could find elsewhere. We talked and he got the parts from Germany who got them from US. Around the world and back cheaper! I think his email was the above alias at hotmail.

You can find the volume pots on Ebay for about $10, but you gotta find someone who knows how to solder well. Another option would be used two-way radios.com. They're $50 flat rate covers one part replacement, and the volume knob is included.

The top control assy for all APX portable models except 8000 is nla. Shame really. If you can find the pot, it's not hard to replace.

Came here exactly to recommend him. I live in the US, and have never had a problem with transactions. Wonder, based on that other post, what an AN XE control top would cost now, guessing they are harvesting them from dud frames or something.

you can still use a BN revision assembly on them if you want an oem option, they cost quite a bit though. The only issue you face is that the top display will have to be swapped from the AN version into it because the internal display hardware and drivers are different. ive done this on a non XE AN radio and only had to swap top displays and it works perfectly fine.

Can you provide a link to this elusive pot?
Thanks!

That's what I have been charged in the past, but I don't think I got any tuning or alignment in that service.
