To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,
I have an APX6500 and when I am scanning, it takes almost 5 seconds for the radio to lock onto a channel, I also have another 6500 and I do not have this issue, is there something that needs to be changed in CPS? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

You're going to need to be more specific before anyone can begin to help.

What type of scan list? Conventional? Priority Monitor? Multi-System Talkgroup? Intelligent Priority?

What is your Voice Rx Tx Hold time set to?

How many channels/talkgroups are being scanned?

If multi-system trunking scan, what is your System Search Time set to?

It is a conventional scan list, Hold time is set to 3 seconds, I am scanning 30 channels, 24 analog, 6 P25 conventional.

When was the last time the radio was tuned, had a firmware update or any type of basic PM?

Is your other 6500 set up the same way? When going from analog to p25 conventional, it's normal that it is going to take a little bit because the radio has to switch between systems. Try setting up 2 scan lists as a test. 1 for analog and 1 for p25 conventional and see if the issue remains.

Take the codeplug from the one that works correctly and clone it to the one having the issue. If the problem stays, it's a tuning/firmware issue and not a programming issue.

I can't clone it, they both have different flashcodes, radio was just tuned a few days ago on a Aeroflex 3920.

Was it working and then started having the issue after tuning or was the issue present before tuning?

Would you be able to PM me the codeplugs for both radios? I am kind of bored and wouldn't mind helping look for what might be causing the problem.

are they both programmed the same other than having different flashcodes?
Have you tried exporting/importing the whole codeplug?

Yes you can (sort of). Just do a top-level drag and drop in CPS from the one that works to the one that doesn't.

Make sure to save the originals so you have something to fall back to in case it makes things worse.
