• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

For apx8500 - Besides the home button, can any of the programmable menu buttons be programmed to revert to a specific frequency/channel?

Thanks in advance

MS01-MS05. You don't program those in CPS, you set them on the radio by long-pressing while on the channel you want. Think car radio presets. Once set you want to make sure to read the radio back and save that codeplug so they're remembered, otherwise writing to the radio will reset them all.

Thanks GTR. I wish we could change the actual button label from MS01 to what channel it is set to. Maybe one day!

Well, this is some weird timing...APX CPS/FW R31 just released, and look at what they just added. Nice touch, now you can preset them all and they won't get wiped out if you forget to read the radio before programming.

I had the same thought, but the CPS/FW were created before this thread was started lol

PS - No ability to rename the displayed name for the MS## soft keys, and when you choose a channel from the list it's only displaying the channel number (1, 2, 3, etc.) instead of the name assigned in the zone. Derp. 🤦‍♂️

No, just confirming that we're still unable to re-name/re-label the button (which would make a ton of sense, and an excellent feature to have).

Little off topic but the O9 head did support quick select and had the names of the channel vs MS01. The 5 buttons above the display you would change to mode and set zone/channel. I am going to miss that myself on my next work truck. Was great as a Chief/Officer as I could just tap away vs stitching zones back and forth.
