• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm having an issue with my APX900 battery.

The issue is that the Impres charger resorts to a fast blinking red light at the end of the charge cycle. However, it apparently does charge the battery, as I can get over 12 hours per charge. (RX only). Battery is a little over one year old. I'm wondering...maybe it's counterfeit battery?

The part number on the battery is NNTN4409AR. Most Google searches for this part number direct me to a PMNNxxxx part number. Which make me wonder if this is the correct battery for the APX900.

What is the correct part number for an APX900 battery? I realize there is probably more than one part number that will work. I'm trying to avoid counterfeits.

The better question is where did you get that battery from? A reliable source, or eBay? Perhaps you should post some photos of your battery so those familiar with the series can get a sense of whether it looks legit or not.

As for genuine replacements, ShopWiscomm has an entire section dedicated to APX 900 batteries.

Oh and if you're not using a genuine OEM charger, genuine battery or not it's probably going to underperform or be troublesome.

The battery came with the radio from an eBay seller, which of course says nothing of where he got it from. The charger is an OEM Impres charger. Here is the battery:

That serial number tickled the memory and looked familiar. It seems to be used quite frequently when a serial number is needed or rather, labels are picked apart and slapped on aftermarket batteries. Some sellers don't hold back to slapping a Motorola label on their counterfeits.
"I was told that the picture was not clear enough to make out the serial number on these batteries. The batteries were purchased through Grainger, and the serial number is: 500000AE928E on all of them purchased in a batch. Buyer beware, and I would recommend inspecting batteries as soon as they are received."

Every battery listing pictured on this google search has that serial number

Well, I ordered a replacement battery from a two way radio dealer, hopefully it won't be a fake.

I had an issue with Grainger and fake "Motorola" batteries a few months back. I had three dozen with the same serial number. Attached is a picture of their labels.

Note: In the APX8000 linked thread, I had only found a dozen fake Motorola batteries with the 500000AE928E serial number at that time, that eventually became three dozen when all were found/inventoried. They all came from Grainger in our case, and being a good corporate customer, we sent them back for refund.

Check your batteries immediately after receiving them for the serial number 500000AE928E, as they are all fakes.
