A man is behind bars, accused of sending threatening e-mails to former co-workers about guns and biotoxins.
Mark Crane, 42, was the target of a massive SWAT team operation in Centennial that shut down several neighborhoods Friday night. Police raided the home on the 5900 block of South Perth Street, near E-470 and Smoky Hill, at about 7 p.m. Neighbors receiving reverse 911 calls were evacuated from their homes as heavily-armed SWAT teams moved in and officers donning hazmat suits and gas masks directed traffic and closed off streets.
Crane was taken to the Arapahoe County Jail. He faces a felony charge of false report of explosives, weapons or harmful substances.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office said the Joint Terrorism Task Force told its deputies Friday morning that a man residing at the home on South Perth Street had sent threatening e-mails to some former co-workers, apparently because he didn't get a job for which he had applied.
In the e-mails, he stated that he had purchased two firearms and had a biotoxin in his possession and he was prepared to use it, authorities said.
A joint investigation using local, state and federal law enforcement officers -- and involving the Tri-County Health Department -- was conducted. The investigation culminated in the arrest Friday afternoon.
Crane's home was searched and checked by a combination of local and regional hazmat technicians, police said. All people who entered the home went through standard decontamination procedures at the scene. The investigation is continuing.
The maximum punishment for a class six felony is 1 1/2 years in prison and a fine of $100,000.
