I'm running Version 1.4 Build 5 of ARC XT Pro. (ie the latest greatest)
It's the "full" version (ie I paid for it)
Windows 32-bit Vista, w/all latest updates
Using Uniden cable w/ Prolific driver (i.e. USB-to-serial converter cable)
Have uninstalled/re-installed program

ARC XT won't recognize either my BCT-15X or BC346XT.

When I ask the program to "autodetect" it complains there's no scanner hooked up.
When I manually designate the correct COM port, same result when it tries to read from the scanner.

Ok, many folks around here are running ARC XT without this issue, so the basic software can't be all that bad.....any suggestions on other items to check, or known incompatibilities??

Thanks, Zip

Do you have control channel output set to 'on'? I know that gives FreeScan fits - might also be the same with ARC XT 73 Mike

AlamabamaRS: Yep, got the recommended driver for the Uniden cable

Mike: Tried Control Channel Output Setting both On/Off....no change

Gommert: Are you referring to "PL-2303 Vista Driver Installer.exe" ?? Yes, I have that driver installed.

Ok, any other ideas?

When you open Device manager, when you plug in and unplug the cable, you should see the device appear and disappear. If not try to reinstall driver. If it isn't appearing as a COM port, you need to go into its properties (when plugged in), select "UPDATE DRIVERS", then point the computer to the appropriate file

You must diconnect usb cable before installing drivers

Thank you to all who offered help and suggestions.

Got the program to recognize both of my scanners now.

*AND* got 'em working with both the Uniden cable and a prior-purchased Radio Shack USB-to-serial cable....
