Good Evening, My name is Mark Griffin. I just received my BCD996p2 Scanner today from Scanner master. I purchased the ARC-XT software and installed in on my Windows 10 computer.. I read the note about the USB driver and installed the driver to the USB cable that came with the radio. The com port on the device manager is 4. And the computer tells me that there are no problems with this.

But for some reason, when I connect the usb cable to the front of my scanner, turn it on, the ARC-XT communications setup does not recognize that the scanner is out there. Plus, there does not seem to be a way to set a com port within the scanner setup itself.

I have sent an email to scanner master asking for their help on this matter. Has anyone else ran into this problem? I did read on the Butel website that with windows 10 it would require the enhanced USB connector. I'm not sure which one was included with the scanner. It is frustrating because I have the systems I want to upload to my scanner yet I can't because the software does not recognize that my scanner even exists. Mark Griffin, KB3Z

Under the Scanner drop-down menu there's a choice "Communications Setup" that opens a dialogue box titled USB/RS232SC with com port selections. Available ones are marked in blue, unavailable in red (at least on mine). There's also a large button "Auto-Detect Scanner".

Did you try this? Good Luck

Edit: My system is Win 7, so I haven't faced this Win 10 situation yet. I looked around on Scannermaster's site, and the cable they sell has some reviews that mention the Win 10 issue, though for older 996XT's I think. If it turns out that you need that cable could you update us? I suppose I'll be upgrading to Win 10 eventually and will need it myself.

Thanks in advance.

It would not surprise me that the USB-1 cable that came as stock with the radio may not work with Windows 10. The only problem is that I really don't feel like having to shell out another 30.00 to get this either. I do have a windows vista laptop but you have to install this driver before it will work. This is the driver that is mentioned on the Butel Website.PL2303 Prolific Driver v1.7.0.

I am hoping that Scanner Master will get back to me today. It seems their phone center is only open from 10:00 to 4:00. Really doesn't suit the working person when it comes to talking to a live person. I start work at 8:00 and don't get home until after 5:00. And even on a Friday when we leave at 3:00 I get home at around 3:30 (depending on traffic). And they say that they may not respond to your email or phone call until 48 hours later. Time will tell what happens. I will call them at lunchtime from work and see if I can get a helpful answer from them.

Will keep you updated on what I find out! Mark Griffin, KB3Z

I spoke to Scanner Master at 10:00 EST. I will need to check the version of ARC-XT that I have. I purchased the CD Version. Currently ARC-XT is at Version 2.0 build 4. If my installed version is not current I can upgrade for free via the Butel website.

I was told to make sure that I had the most current USB Driver from Uniden installed. I will check this out this afternoon when I get home. Hopefully everything will work. Mark Griffin, KB3Z
