I use Windows XP Pro with SP2 and I keep getting an error message when trying to install Butel’s ARC396 software that says:

"Error 1402.Could not open key: UNKNOWN\RICHTEXT.RichtextCtrl.1\CLSID. System error 5. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."

I understand from the manual that I need to set the “DPI setting;” to small fonts by navigating to the “General” tab by clicking “Advanced” on the “Setting” tab in “Display Properties”. The problem is that I do not have the "Small size" option. I only have options for "Normal size (96DPI)”, "Large size (120 DPI)" and “Custom setting…".

After hours of research on the internet I found a few articles that said “Normal size” in XP is the same as “Small size” on Windows 2000, 98, and Millennium but knowing that doesn’t help because I still can’t install the software.

Is there a way to add the small font option without reinstalling XP? Is there a way to change the “Normal size” to read “Small size” so the software will install? Am I missing video driver or XP files?

Please help with a solution to this problem. I really want to use the software and although I haven’t been able to use the key, I don’t know if I can get my money back.

Sometimes you can add a space in the beginning or end of the key without knowing it. I always paste my keys in and then put the curser at the end of the key and press the delete key.

Thanks for the suggestion but it was not a problem with my registration key it was a problem with Windows XP registry keys. I had to give full permissions to the SYSTEM key that was referred to in the error message.

P.S.
I actually did have a space before a password once and called our computer support people and they figured it out immediately. I consider myself reasonably computer savvy so you can imagine my embarrassment when they pointed out the space.
