Do a little bit of investigating. Here is where I would start if I knew nothing of the local area.

Check out the local hospitals. Are they capable of handling severe trauma patients, stroke, NICU, cardiovascular events? If so then look at the freqs for the hospital emergency dept, security etc. What is the closest airport to said hospital. Chopper will have to refuel, pilot will probably check in with the airport. Check out the local ambulance service also. The chopper may use some of the same freqs.

EDIT-Just checked out the link from wb0wao. It is good, it will get you started. Do follow up as I mentioned above. There is more to be heard if you just investigate a little more.

I am sure the exact set up for each hospital varies greatly. Where I work the chopper lands on one of two rooftop landing pads. They will then fly to a local, private airport to refuel or when the weather is bad. Carle hospital to Frasca Field.

While visiting my grandfather in Evansville IN I saw that the hospital down there has a small landing pad a short distance from the hospital. Not sure if they fueled up there or if they would stay there during bad weather.

Maybe I need to talk with some of the Airlife people at my hospital for more information on the inner workings of the system.

ARCH 'CAN' come from anywhere...... depending on where the current units are... if they are at base, at a hospital, or en route home to base.

Jersey County, they can come from St Louis Hospitals, Granite City or the Litchfield base.

Macoupin/Montgomery, usually come from the Litchfield base.

MetroEast (Bond, St Clair, Madison, Clinton and beyond) are often from the Granite City base, but in some cases the Litchfield chopper may be able to get there quicker.

Simply listen to 155.055 for LZ ops, Landing Zone ops or the local Fire or EMS repeaters. ARCH in the past has used QEMs 151.31, Jersey County 155.805, but is usually going to I-REACH (155.055) or IFERN (154.265) on most calls in Illinois.

Dispatch is now from "AIRCOM" which is connected to outer based repeaters via telephone/internet/satellite connections

As already given below.... I've already compiled all this information from my years of listening AND from some people on the inside.

Also see the WIKI article at:
Medical Helicopters / EMS Agencies (Area Wide) (MO) - The RadioReference Wiki

There is also information on the IL Medical Helicopter Database page;

EMS / Ambulance / Medical Helicopters / IDPH Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

If I were you, program in
155.055 CSQ
154.265 CSQ and/or 210.7 PL

467.525 192.8 (input)
462.075 107.2
467.075 107.2 (input)

Just for interest sake, AirEvac an serve any part of the area too, depending on subscribers (paid members) and needs. You can often hear these aircraft talking from far away, and most of the dispatch centers come in pretty good in the Metro East IL area.

Terry,

The database page lists 461.525 as dispatch, is the DB the correct and this one is a typo?
Where is the GC base located? I didn't know about it.
