Just Purchased The Program Thanks for the Discount

Hi Jeff,

I have been a long-time member of RR. I have been following your development of your program and decided to purchase it tonight. I can't wait to try it with full activation. One thing I wanted to mention to you is that I use the DV1 for SIGNIT and Interference Hunting. Using the trial version I have been very successful in tracking down anything and everything. If it were not for the expanded capabilities of your software, I would not have been as effective. To anyone out there that has a AOR ARDV-1, this is the best and ONLY program to use.

Thanks,

Dana

v.6.007-007C

'007C' is almost ready for release.

Had emails asking what it will contain, so here is a summary

CHANGES LOG - 6.0007-007C (BETA)

1. Program no longer sets the radio to VFOA on exit. It continues to do the last instruction received.

2. Audio samples can now be recorded either to the SD CARD or the P.C. (if a suitable audio cable is connected).

The Pro Tools inter-active log shows either type, and double-clicking the line will Play the audio.

The program also creates two folders, accessible from buttons in Pro Tools. One will show all the audio files saved to the P.C., the other saves them in sub-directories by frequency.

3. If the program encounters any difficulty saving the License.txt activation file to the CAT folder, it saves it to the 'Documents' folder in Windows. From there it should be possible to 'drag' it to the program's folder.

4. If 'DOCKING' is set to 'ON' (always 'OFF' by default), the Main, 'Q-DB' and 'Pro Tools' window will be attached to each other.

5. Added the ability to LOG with Audio in 'Q-DB' for a single selected frequency:-

NEW - SINGLE FREQUENCY LOGGING WITH AUDIO IN 'Q'

a. Bring up a Q'DB file
b. Double Click on the frequency you want to monitor / log, It will appear in window above the buttons
c. Select either REC TO PC or REC TO SD Card
d. Click SCAN in Q-DB window No other frequencies are scanned.
e. When audio logging has started the SD CARD Icon appears in the Pro Tools window.
f. The program will just log that single frequency. If the 'Q' DELAY is set to '0' it keeps recording until the squelch closes, or chooses a DELAY setting.
g. To stop single frequency monitoring, double click in the window containing that frequency. The line will be cleared..
h. The program is ready for normal 'Q' audio logging, scanning all the frequencies in the list.

6. FASTER LOADING TIME

7. VFO DETAILS SAVED An unwanted side effect crept in due to a small change that was made several versions ago, which meant the VFO frequencies were only remembered when they had been entered manually.

If the UP / DN buttons were used, or the Powermate (Griffin) Wheel, they were transferred to the AR-DV1 and shown on the program's screen, but not saved. This has been corrected.

I will post here when the new version has been uploaded to www.espyonard.com

Another Summer gone, I wonder what it was like (sigh)

UPDATE 007C will be posted within days

Just doing the final, final testing for the new update '007C'. Lots on new 'goodies'.

Added another function today which I think eSPYonARD Users will find very useful when using 'Q-DB' files

'Q-DB' FILTERING - NOW UP TO TWO SEARCH WORDS MAY BE ENTERED

Some Users' may not yet realise how powerful the FILTER button can be when scanning or selecting frequencies in 'Q_DB' files.

----------------------------------
0120.22500 SOUTHAMPTON APPROACH AM
0122.40000 WESTON FIS AM
0123.57500 DORSET NO TAG AM
0124.75000 LONDON FIS AM
0125.20000 JERSEY APPROACH AM
0125.85000 CARDIFF APPROACH AM
0126.07500 LONDON ATCC AM
0127.65000 SHANWICK OACC AM
0127.82500 AIR TO AIR AM
0127.95000 LONDON CITY ATCC AM
0128.70000 LONDON MIL ATCC AM
0128.81250 NO TAG AM
0128.97500 EXETER APPROACH AM *
0129.42500 LONDON ATCC AM
0129.50000 BREST ACC AM
0130.23750 NO TAG AM
0131.87500 PARAMOUNT EXT AM
0156.42500 MARINE (BRIXHAM PILOTS) FM
0156.45000 DART HARBOUR NAV AUTHORITY FM
0156.45000 MARINE (BRIXHAM PILOTS) FM
0156.45000 TORQUAY HARBOUR OFFICE FM
----------------------------------

The above is part of a much larger 'Q-DB' file with many mixed Modes and Frequencies.

The whole file contains over 200 frequencies often active in this area, discovered by using eSPYonARD's search and log facilities (with audio samples if required).

Rather than creating individual lists for Air Band, Marine Band etc, the whole list can be imported into 'Q-DB', and by using the Filter Button, only designated frequencies will appear in the list for scanning or individual selection.

Filtering is almost instant.

Enter 'AM' or 'FM' as a filter, and only the frequencies with that mode are shown.

Enter 'LONDON', or 'EXETER' or even part of a frequency e.g. '012' to narrow your selection.

You can also enter up to TWO keywords (or parts thereof), separated by a comma. e.g. EXETER,LONDON, or EXE,LON, and only entries containing EITHER names will be shown.

There are new '*' buttons that will automatically add or delete a '*' from a selected line. Enter '*' as a Filter and only those frequencies appear.

Just open the Filter window and delete the entry to bring back the entire list.

The ability to use filtering adds quite an outstanding degree of versatility to the process of transferring or scanning frequencies of your choice.

Of course the 'Q-DB' lists are fully inter-active.

Select a frequency line and it is sent to the radio.

Click the SCAN button and away it goes. Also in the latest update the 'Q-DB' scanning speed is twice as fast as before.

Updated update

Following a User request I have added one extra function to '007C'

I am not going to change the Version number, with all the extra work that entails, so if you downloaded '007C' in the last 2 days, please go to www.espyonard.com and download / install again.

Here is the addition:-
13. FREQUENCY ENTRY

Users may now enter frequencies via the P.C. Keyboard.

The original 'KEY' method of clicking number buttons remains unaltered.

Click either the first number of the frequency you want, or anywhere inside the keypad box on the programs' screen.

The small black box opens below the numbers, as before, but now it has 'focus' (i.e. the cursor appears).

Use the keyboard to type in your chosen frequency, and press the ENTER key to complete the operation.

Thirty thousand plus frequencies - a single file

I wondered if any members would be interested in a list of all U.K. frequencies between 25mHz and 1300mHz?

It contains just over THIRTY THOUSAND entries.

You can see from the example below the sort of information it contains.

Sorted by Frequency, and each entry has its Mode and and a comprehensive description.

The good news it is a simple Notepad text file, only 1995kb in size.

Too many to be of use? Just depends on whether you have eSPYonARD with 'Q' really, but slightly better than the standard number of Memories on the radio. Thirty thousand plus in just one file, ready fo instant use, if you run the Program.

If you have the program I guess there is no bad news, lol.

It takes 3 seconds to load the file into 'Q-DB'. After that you can of course transfer single frequencies straight to your AR-DV1, or scan them, just with mouse clicks.

With the new 'double word' filter function you can quickly bring up just the lines you want, and by quickly I mean almost instantly.

For example enter WALES,TAXI, and the listings for Taxis in Wales will be the only lines that appear.

The Filter permutations should make the List quite useful.

Because each line contains a Mode, then that is also sent to the AR-DV1, making scanning even easier.

I used eSPYonARD to compile it from frequencies on the Net, and it did take just over 2 hours to do it.

Now I realise the file may not be of interest to everybody, and perhaps those of you using an alternative program may feel they do not need it, as I am not sure how other programs deal with managing thirty thousand frequency entries, and making them almost instantly available to the AR-DV1.

If it will be of interest to anyone let me know in this thread please.

What is the scanning speed using that list?
How does it cope with both TX and RX frequencies and one of them have leading zeros?

The scanning speed is too fast to be able to read the Descriptions / Tags as they go past, however a 'SLOW' speed can be selected if required.

There are too many 'Q' options to discuss here, but you can use the Trial program and see for yourself. Example 'Q-DB' files are included.

The way 'Q' deals with frequency lines actually has to be seen to be believed.

As long as the frequency you want to receive is the first in a line, it will read and transfer it to the AR-DV1.

So it would cope with lines like this:-

14.2120 USB Short Wave Net
70cm calling 433.5 FM
145.5 Calling frequency for 2Metres FM
My favourite 0145.525 FM

all in the same text file initially.

So frequencies can be imported from many sources into a simple text file, or created / modified manually.

The program has a fast 'SORT function. If the above were sorted it would be automatically saved and the list would appear as:-

0014.21200 Short Wave Net USB
0145.50000 Calling frequency for 2Metres FM
0145.52500 My favourite FM
0433.50000 70cm calling FM

In an inter-active list.

The leading zeros are created during the SORT, and usually the required frequency moved to the front so the list is sorted into frequency order.

It is not 'phased' by the TX frequency appearing in the line.

Double click on a line, the frequency and mode are transferred to the Radio and program's screen. The TAG appears on the Program's screen, and is not limited re the number of characters as with the AR-DV1.

Click the SCAN button, and they are all scanned, with Mode changes as necessary.

Add a FILTER to the list too, and only lines with the filter word are displayed.

Unlimited 'Q-Memory' banks in effect, well only limited by your hard drive, and the files are very small. Even the one with 30,000 + lines is less than 2mb.

Just as a small added bonus you can also log and record 'Q' activity, with audio samples, to the SD Card or direct to the P.C. with an additional cable. You can do the same for the Radio in its own VFO, Search or SCAN.

Inter-active lists again, click on a line and the audio sample is played. As I said too many functions to detail here. The line shows the frequency, mode, tag, time/date stamp and audio file information, if selected.

Search You-Tube for eSPYonARD and you can see it in action. They were recorded some time ago, since then the 'Q' Scan speed has doubled.

The above is a small, albeit significant fraction of the program's functions, however nothing like 'Q' is available elsewhere.

I reckon there are lots and lot of people who do not think the claims for 'Q' are possible, except those who use it, lol. Of course anyone who downloads the free trial can decide for themselves.

www.espyonard.com

There are links to the YouTube videos there, but for some reason Internet Explorer sometimes will not play them. That goes for other links too, nothing to do with the actual files. They are fine in Chrome.

I tried to run the program but it refuses to start without an actual AR-DV1 connected, something I do not have at this moment.
I revertet to Q-Whistler thinking it would be somewhat similar but I guess not. It took 5 minutes to sort a file and it only used 10% of memory and 10% of CPU power and the result where only three lines as the program run in trial mode.

Maybe someone could try this webpage with frequencies and see what could be done with it:
https://www.frekvenslista.com/lista.php?city=&region=1&Submit=Uppdatera

I understand one must save it as a txt file and then filter out unrelevant info using search&replace before running it. It seemed impossible to use excel to format the file.

Trials and Tribulations

The TRIAL program is not a simulation, but the full program with some restrictions. It does require an AR-DV1 connected to the P.C. to run.

Whistler 'Q' is different.

Here is part of the result sorted by eSPYonARD, with no manual changes necessary. It took under 2 minutes to finalise. The length of time depends on the complexity of the original file, and its size of course. Lines not containing frequencies are automatically removed.

It would be ready to use immediately EXCEPT there were few recognised MODES in English in the individual lines of the original file, so if you wanted the program to automatically select them you would need to enter them manually, FM, USB. LSB, CW or AUTO etc.

If a list contains frequencies that all use the same MODE, but are not included in each line, e.g. Aircraft, then the program lets you choose a default Mode if none were present.

In this case you could apply frequencies as a FILTER, then when the filtered list appears, apply a default mode for scanning purposes.

I cannot show the complete list here, too many characters. Email me via the web-site and I will send you the whole text file

A 'Q'uantum Leap - again

Another 'Q'uantum Leap - A 'MUST' READ

In the next update you can now copy and paste a List into a text file, and if each line does NOT contain a MODE, the program makes a well informed decision and inserts one into the list.

That means even more lists will be ready for immediate scanning once Sorted by 'Q'

An example of a diverse but simple list created in a Notepad file:-

-----------
1.820 160M
01.84 160M
03.52 80M
3.78 80M
7.01 40M
07.110 40M
14.01 20M
014.300 20M
92.100 BROADCAST BAND
120.225 AIR BAND
122.40000 AIR BAND
144.1 2M
145.525 2M
156.425 MARINE
417.525 SEARCH & RESCUE
461.35 SOUTH DEV
-----------

After a very quick SORT in 'Q' becomes:-

-----------
0001.82000 160M CW
0001.84000 160M LSB
0003.52000 80M CW
0003.78000 80M LSB
0007.01000 40M CW
0007.11000 40M LSB
0014.01000 20M CW
0014.30000 20M USB
0092.10000 BROADCAST BAND FM
0120.22500 AIR BAND AM
0122.40000 AIR BAND AM
0144.10000 2M USB
0145.52500 2M AUTO
0156.42500 MARINE AUTO
0417.52500 SEARCH & RESCUE AUTO
0461.35000 SOUTH DEV AUTO
-----------

All ready for immediate use.

No User intervention required, just click the SORT button.

It works on 'complicated' text files too, finding the Frequency, getting rid of empty lines or ones that did not contain a frequency etc.

If the program thinks a frequency may be Digital, it adds 'AUTO'

As usual, double click on a line to transfer the Frequency and Mode to the program's screen and AR-DV1. The description appears on the Program's screen.

Or click the SCAN button.

Before if your acquired list did not contain a MODE, you had to go though it and add one manually, unless the entire list used a known mode, e.g. Aircraft, when a default Mode could be chosen. Not any more.

IMPORTING FREQUENCIES WITH THE PROGRAM WAS UNIQUE BEFORE, NOW IT HAS PROGRESSED TO AN EVEN HIGHER LEVEL.

Of course you need an AR-DV1 and eSPYonARD, lol.

I have uploaded the sorted file from UBBE's URL list (above) and it is attached. The file is exactly as it was created after the 'Q' Sort, with no manual amendments. Just clicking the SORT button was all that was necessary after selecting, copying and pasting the contents into a Notepad text file. It took just under 2 minutes to complete, and was auto-saved with an amended file name.

You will see the program has now also added predicted MODES to each line automatically, so is ready for immediate use in eSPYonARD with the AR-DV1, either to select individual frequencies, or scan the entire list as is, or as amended by adding Filter key words.

In the Program each entry is a complete single line, and not split. Not sure how it will appear when downloaded as it will depend on the Font Size used naturally.

Any chance of getting this into a Q-Whistler kind of program for scanners?
And move the mode setting to right after the frequency where it can be predicted?

That would make it super simply to import in excel and adapt to any scanner program that handles text import or clipboard paste. Or get rid of the AR-DV1 handshake requirement and/or make the remote protocol adaptable to Uniden/Whistler/Icom only sending frequencies?

Thanks for your interest.

As you can see the programs 'Q' search now predicts Modes if none are shown in a frequency line, and placing it on the end of the line makes more sense to me. eSPYonARD is so versatile it would not matter where the Mode appeared, as with a frequency it will find and use them.

I imagine owners of other maker's equipment would like your suggestions, even the Manufacturers themselves, and especially those who provide software for other Scanners and the AR-DV1.

'Q' would give their Programs and Radios a very distinct leap forward. Of course the ability to import frequencies so quickly for immediate use is just one of the many extras 'Q' brings, but in reality just a small part of the whole program together with lots of other special abilities.

Sadly, after spending over 2 years developing eSPYonARD, inventing 'Q' and all its facilities, and making the already unique AR-DV1 much more powerful, I am a bit reluctant to go down that line. Re-writing the whole program so it could act as an emulator without an AR-DV1 is out of the question, but I suppose it would be a way for others to be able to get all its benefits of 'Q' for free, and use it for other Radios/Scanners, and even as an add-on for different CAT type programs.

No other software has ever produced anything so simple to use, fast, and comprehensive as 'Q' in eSPYonARD, but it will remain just for the AR-DV1.

I assume you downloaded the text file I attached to the post above, gathered from the URL you mentioned, showing the predicted Modes it added on any line that did not already contain one?

Not that 'Q' is widely appreciated, lol. I know of of people who still think the claims for it are just too outlandish to be true, despite what other Users may have posted proving the claims are just fact. Strange really, as it is there for anyone to try in the free version of the program, if they have an AR-DV1

I actually would be the first to understand that. About a year ago I was just playing Radio when I thought it would be nice to be able to import whole lists of frequencies from almost anywhere, in a a single operation, irrespective of how they were worded, and be able to use them within a minute or two, or even more quickly. I (almost) dismissed the idea as a fantasy, but 24 hours later I had a working prototype.

It grew from there, and how it grew. I do not think the full potential has been realised yet. I still get emails from Customers telling me they have discovered new uses for it.

Of course one would expect me to think 'Q' is a Scanning revolution, lol, but I am pleased that many of the Program's owners have contacted me and confirmed they think that too.

It is a shame you do not have an AR-DV1, or you would have been able to actually use 'Q' and see just how 'strong' it is. Not only did it produce your List in a short time, but within seconds you could have been selecting or scanning all the Frequencies, or utilising the 'Q' filter function to isolate those you wish, and create individual Lists from them, just with a few mouse clicks.

Because the information is all contained in simple text files, modifying them, or creating your own is so simple. The small size of them, and being able to create backups easily is just a bonus, as is the vast quantity of files ('Q' Memory Banks) one is able to store, select and use.

No size restrictions. A 'Q' file can contain as many, or as few frequencies as you wish. The 'Q' UK Frequency text file contains 31,000+ frequency entries with modes and descriptions, and is about 2 mb in size, all ready for immediate use just with mouse clicks. No restriction on TAG (description) lengths either.

In the next update, with automatic Mode prediction, 'Q' will have taken another jump forward, making it even more versatile and powerful, but to be able to use eSPYonARD people will have to get an AR-DV1, but what a powerful combination they make (some might say).

I need to correct a statement about eSPYonARD I made early its production. I said that I thought eSPYonARD was second only to Probe, a DOS based software program used with Optocom products.
I was wrong. I do not believe there has ever been a scanner/receiver based control program that came or comes close to having the functionality available in eSPYonARD.
Ever.

When going from crystal scanners to computer controlled ones, I first evaluated what software where the best. It was Probe, and then got a scanner for it, a Pro-2042 and a OS535 board. I later also got the Optocom. I was fortunate enough to be included in the development of Probe and all my suggestions materialised in the software

If it turns out that the AR-DV1, both hardware and firmware wise, really can handle Tetra basestation decoding it might be possible that I purchase one. And I have no doubt in my mind that eSPYonARD at that time will have been developed to handle tetra trunking. Yes?

007D - another innovation for 'Q'

With a couple of mouse clicks Users can now add (or remove) either CTCSS or DCS codes to a 'Q' displayed frequency line, in a 'Q-DB' text file.

Just double click on the line in the 'Q-DB' window.

Click either the new CTC or DCS buttons in 'Q-DB', and you can select from a list using the Mouse.

Click on the Tone you want from the list that appears, and everything else is automatic, including updating and saving the amended list without needing to re-sort it

During a Q Scan, if it finds a line with a CTC or DCS entry it switches the AR-DV1 to that function, and sends the appropriate code so there is no audio unless the code is present.

If you double click on a line that has CTC or DCS entries, and choose the CLEAR option, the appropriate squelch entry is removed leaving you with a standard frequency line entry.

Prior to this addition if you wanted to save a frequency with Tone or Digital squelch you had to use an AR-DV1 memory. Users could achieve that using eSPYonARD much more easily than using the Radio's buttons of course, but now you can use unlimited 'Q' Memory text files with CTCSS and/or DCS

This will free up even more AR-DV1 dedicated memories.

All mouse driven and automatic.

Back to the pre-release testing.

Well I was impressed, lol.

Here is something mainly for UK owners but has implications in other areas

Well my well deserved break lasted less than 36 hours. Most people will find this post worth reading in full.

Here is what is coming for UK Users:-

0453.55000 FIRST GREATER WESTERN LIMITED [SU9790080200] Slough Berkshire sl25dd AUTO

The above is just one line from a new UK Database 'Q-DB' file I have produced. It contains over 70,000 individual entries, and is only 6mb in size.

The 'Q-DB' file is in frequency order. OfCom DUPLICATE entries have been removed. Frequencies are duplicated of course, but NOT their location information, so may be Filtered succesfully.

It contains a TAG (description), a National Grid Reference (see below), the nearest Town / City, the Post Code, and is set to AUTO mode selection on the Radio, so will cater for frequencies that have switched from Analogue to Digital.

eSPYonARD Users can apply Filters to find registerd business frequencies in any area they are interested in, and save the filtered files for future use.

The list is derived from the latest UK Ofcom database, however that does not show the additional location information included in my list, and all the OfCom duplicates (and there were a lot) have been removed.

Here is an interesting addition.

Providing your P.C. is connected to the NET, by 'double-clicking' on an entry in the 'Q-DB' list, you can choose to display the location in a Satellite or Map view.

Filtering is very fast, however a list of this size takes about 30 seconds (or more) to load into eSPYonARD. Of course once you have filtered the list into the area you want, and saved that, That will take a very short time to load.

NOW can we just deal with the Critics, and put their possible replies to bed here and now.

1. Any list is out of date before it is even uploaded. Some of the entries will no longer be transmitting, but they still hold and pay for Licences to do so as of 2017.

No 'guestimates' please, such as 90% of such a list is out of date (and only one other person has seen this list so far). If anyone can actually provide an accurate percentage then please do so, but be propared to justify your remarks with proper statistics.

Will they also point us to a better list, that is highly accurate, contains all the information that this one does, and the accuracy of which is supported by real evidence.

2. Is all the information in the new 'Q' file 100% accurate. I doubt it, but many entries will be, and they will far outweigh those that are not.

3. There is NO UK list available that contains all the information this one does, for example Post Codes. No list that will bring up a MAP for each entry just using a double-click of the Mouse. Also no List that can transfer the frequency / mode to the AR-DV1 instantly, or perform a SCAN.

4. In addition the MAP display function can be applied to your own 'Q' lists. That will be described in the new program Manual, and is quite easy to achieve. It may work in other Countries too.

----------------

Am I being a little 'testy' about anyone who may decide to criticize the list before seeing it, AND testing out all 70,000+ entries to prove it?

Yes I am.

Assembling all this information, and creating the 'Q-DB' file for AR-DV1 / eSPYonARD users has taken a LOT of work, time and effort. As always it is free.

As from the next update, this list, and the one I provided in '007-D' should make excellent reference points.

In eSPYonARD once you have filtered the List, and saved it, then the extensive Logging functions of the program will let you find out which of the frequencies are active and of interest, and at the same time find any others transmitting within range of your Antenna. That includes the option to record a sample of Audio from each active frequency.
