Downloading the software

Saw download link in post #10. As I tried to download trial, my virus software NOD32 blocked this. Tried to load on computer with AVG antivirus. Similar behavior. All kinds of JAVA updates attempted to load at same time. I am very wary of JAVA itself and have had problems with viruses.
Never experienced this kind of behavior with Butel or Sentinel software. I am sure the software is great, but I will wait until others have downloaded, used, and reported on their experience.

At present the program is hosted on a free site. It gets its revenues by advertising.

If you JUST click on the link for the actual program, only that will be downloaded.

Ignore any adverts, or invites to click other links.

Oh and any decent Anti-Virus will alert you when you run the program itself the first time.

Cheers

.................................................

I really look forward to hearing from you after you manage to use the Demo. There is very little the program does not do. I made a decision NOT to include writing to the Memory card, as it would have been too easy for that to cause problems for the user. I have followed your posts carefully over the last few months, and they are excellent.

I think (or at least hope) you were referring to my posts, although a lot of folks here have made excellent contributions to the cause. I'd had telephone discussions with several of the folks here on the forums regarding the DV1.

If you've read the bulk of my posts, you know that I developed a love/hate relationship with the radio during the time I had it, but must admit that I did agonize when I found that I had to return it because of issues involving questionable warranty coverage. I ended up really appreciating the efforts that AOR put into the radio from a conceptual standpoint--- having such wide frequency coverage in a radio that size, along with access to so many digital modes, is truly unique. And it also makes for great mobile operation. I can't put my Icom R9000 under the dash of my car, plus it doesn't do all those great digital modes.

Although AOR does market the radio for hobbyists and amateur radio operators, it's pretty clear that the bulk of sales of AOR equipment (including the DV1) go to government agencies. While recognizing the beauty and utilitarian function of the DV1, I made several attempts to contribute to certain portions of the instruction manual which I felt would benefit from supplemental clarification. My attempts have not always met with fruition. Perhaps the situation in Europe and Asia is a bit different.

Getting back to your program, one of the things you should be considering is remote operation of the radio, much in the way that Proscan allows for remote operation of the Uniden 536. And there might be one of two other functions that the radio is capable of, but which AOR does not take full advantage of, that would make your program very appealing.

We'll keep in touch.

New version available

I wont go into details, but there is a problem sometimes when the program is first run, and finding/entering the Com Port used by the AR-DV1.

PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE CURRENT VERSIONS.

I will have it fixed within 24 hours, and post here when it is done.

I am SO sorry if this has caused any disappointment.

THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN UPDATED AND THE 'TRY BEFORE YOU BUY' IS AVAILABLE FROM, AND HOSTED BY THE WEBSITE

ardv1

Just click the program link on the right hand side of the website.

It is no longer hosted by 'tinyupload.com', so there are no adverts or invites to download other things. Clicking the link just downloads the program immediately.

Sincere apologies to those of you who took the time to download the previous version. Please download the latest program. You should not need to uninstall anything, just run the setup again.

Although simple to operate, the program itself is very complicated, so as with any new program despite very intensive testing, there may be some problems I have missed.

If you do find a problem, please email me (using the link on the website re. 'ENQUIRIES'), and be kind enough not to post negative comments on the FORUM at this time. It is in all our interests to have the program up and running correctly.

The current version is 5.014.

Rest assured, if any bugs are reported to me I will correct them as soon as possible.

Just click the 'TRY ME' button.

Sounds interesting, but when I click on the "try me" button, and then click directly on the .exe file on the subsequent "tinyupload" page to download the file, I get all kinds of pop-ups trying to install 3rd party software.

thanks, but I'll pass.

Hi

Good point. The file is now hosted by, and available for direct download from the website.

http://pat3380.wix.com/ardv1

Clicking on the link on the right hand side of the site downloads the program immediately, and nothing else.

"tinyupload" is no longer involved at all, so no adverts or invites to download anything else.

Not that you should change your mind about 'passing' of course, that is your decision, Cheers

Downloaded it, connected to my radio fine........but just hangs up at "loading data - please wait" "no response" had to abort - this also locked up the radio and had to remove power. Tried it several times. Sent an email to contact on the web. Still hopeful as it looks to be a very interesting piece of software!

Your Problem

Downloaded it, connected to my radio fine........but just hangs up at "loading data - please wait" "no response" had to abort - this also locked up the radio and had to remove power. Tried it several times. Sent an email to contact on the web. Still hopeful as it looks to be a very interesting piece of software!

I have replied to you and await your answers.

In the meantime, just in case, I did a fresh install of Windows 7 on one of my PC's, to eliminate any traces of the program that may have been there during its creation.

I then installed the drivers / program, and it worked straight away.

So a puzzle, but we will work it out.

CAN I PLEASE ASK THAT ANYONE WHO FINDS ANY PROBLEMS NOT POST THEM HERE (ON THE FORUM) YET.

EMAIL ME VIA THE LINK ON THE WEBSITE AND GIVE ME A CHANCE TO SORT THEM OUT FIRST,
ON A ONE TO ONE BASIS.

IT IS IN ALL OUR INTERESTS TO MAKE THE PROGRAM AS GOOD AS IT POSSIBLY CAN BE.

I NEED LOTS OF PEOPLE TO TRY THE SOFTWARE (AFTER ALL IT IS FREE).

There may be some problems, despite extensive testing. The more people who try the program the sooner we can find and fix them, but by EMAIL to ME please, not on the FORUM.

There is an email icon for ENQUIRIES on the program's web page, so very easy to do.

I think that is a fair thing to ask at this stage, Cheers

COM PORT and USB Driver issues

During the time I was testing the program with different versions of Windows and on different PC's I encountered problems with the USB Driver sometimes. In particular when Windows had downloaded and installed the driver automatically'.

This is NOT a bug in the AR-DV1 program. It is a problem with a version of the Silicon Labs driver.

If you install the CAT program, but it 'hangs' when you run it, then this is almost definitely the reason, even though the 'connected icon' shows on the receiver's screen.

I cover this briefly in the Instructions, and included USB Drivers in the program's setup, but I have made a step by step guide which can be downloaded from the Site, titled 'Com Port Problems.txt'.
ardv1

No doubt many of you will already know how 'delicate' Serial communication settings can be, until set correctly. Once the correct driver has been installed, with the right settings, the CAT program will run.

Fixed - ardv1 settings problem - not the program

Downloaded it, connected to my radio fine........but just hangs up at "loading data - please wait" "no response" had to abort - this also locked up the radio and had to remove power. Tried it several times. Sent an email to contact on the web. Still hopeful as it looks to be a very interesting piece of software!

Took a fair bit of detective work, but finally tracked down the problem. One of the settings on the AR-DV1 had been changed (almost certainly by another program?).

I AM DELIGHTED TO REPORT THAT MY 'CAT' PROGRAM WAS NOT AT FAULT, AND RUNS OK.

In case anyone else who tries my program experiences a similar situation, I have posted a little text file on the website with a step by step guide of what to check on the Radio, and re. the USB drivers.

Anyone who has installed a different program which sends / receives information from the AR-DV1 may well find my program 'hangs'. It is a very quick fix, just a few button presses on the radio, but some may wonder why another AR-DV1 program stops the Receiver working with other software.

You of course may think of a reason, but I could not possibly comment lol.

Great support!

Thanks Jeff - got your email and sent you a response!

I have it working now! This looks very interesting, need some more time to play with it and really put it through its paces.

Make sure you follow the well written COM PORT Problems.txt instructions if you have any problem connecting. Jeff is very responsive by email and he clearly understands the complications of serial communications and USB support. We went back and forth with a few emails and figured out in the end that a setting in the DV1 that needed to be changed.

Thanks again Jeff!

Yes you can program the memories. You have pretty much full control over them.

Download the .pdf file above and look at the last page.

The buttons on the left control all the things you can do with a Memory Channel.

The 'Try Before You Buy' prog is fully functional, but with a 2 memory / search bank
limitation

Thanks for all the work Marlbrook, RE the Memories, in the PDF manual, I see no fields for PL, color codes, slots, LSQ etc. Are these going to be available?... Keith

Color Codes, Slots etc

Thanks for all the work Marlbrook, RE the Memories, in the PDF manual, I see no fields for PL, color codes, slots, LSQ etc. Are these going to be available?... Keith

In Firmware 1512 they AOR published the following information re. Digital Modes:-

- Creation of following commands for PC control:
CC for DMR color code read and write. CM will mute when the color code does not match.
PC for P25 NAC code read and write. PM will mute when the NAC code does not match.
NC for NXDN RAN code read and write. NM will mute when the color code does not match.

HOWEVER the actual codes themselves and their FULL usage / result codes have not yet been included in their Command List manual.

Because of this I have not yet attempted to include them. I am sure it would be foolish to do so at the moment. It could lead to unforseen crashes (etc).

Once AOR provide full details it should be an easy matter to add them to the Memory Channel creation menu, and with one proviso (see below), I definitely intend to do that.

As to 'LSQ'. All squelch modes have individual buttons. If you bring up a memory channel, any squelch mode that is applicable to the mode can be selected and the AR-DV1 updates the information automatically. In fact the firmware, under computer control normally allows you to do this during searches, with the unfortunate result that often several channels get switched to the new squelch mode as the radio passes them.

This is a good example of the CAT program having built-in safeguards, as the squelch buttons have been made unavailable during searches.

You will have seen from the PDF file and video that my CAT program is very comprehensive already, and I am dedicated to keeping it updated with any new features that may be released.

The CAT program is the only one I have for sale, and consequently receives, and will receive all my attention. Those who have emailed me know that, as they have receive immediate attention, 7 days a week, often 12 hours a day.

ALL UPDATES WILL BE FREE. Just check back on the website, and if there is a newer version it can be downloaded, and at this time just installed over the existing program.

The PROVISO is that I do not live in an area where all of the Digital Codes are used ( I doubt if anyone does). Consequently some of them, once included in the program, cannot be tested . I can assure you all the correct codes will be used, and sent to the AR-DV1. I can monitor that the receiver acts upon them, but I cannot confirm the radio actually does what it is supposed to do regarding how it handles the DIGITAL modes themselves (that is a firmware matter and beyond my control).

As the program stands now, I know all the functions included do work.

40% discount for butel ar-dv1 software owners

It has been brought to my attention that many people have already purchased the BUTEL software for the AR-DV1, and because of that are naturally reluctant to buy my program (or even test it free in case they wish they had waited.

It has been suggested that BUTEL's CAT control will (once available?) only be offered as a 'paid' upgrade, and if that is true you will have to pay extra for it.

Under no circumstances would I ever 'knock' BUTEL as a Company, or any of its fine products, but if you watch the video at my website you will see my program has an awful lot to offer.

In addition, as the AR-DV1 CAT program is the ONLY one I produce, it has, and will continue to have my undivided attention, 7 days a week, and will include unlimited FREE updates.

So for two weeks only, any one who purchases my CAT program, and can then provide proof via an email that they have previously purchased the BUTEL program will receive a £20 refund.

ardv1

THIS OFFER WILL END ON THE 6TH MARCH 2016

Digital code control codes for cat program

Thanks for all the work Marlbrook, RE the Memories, in the PDF manual, I see no fields for PL, color codes, slots, LSQ etc. Are these going to be available?... Keith

I emailed AOR today, asking for full information about the extra Digital Mode controls discussed.

As soon as they send me complete information I will incorporate them into the program.

I think you will agree that trying to do that without all the information would not be sensible, and I want to ensure everything the program does, it does correctly.

Have my two replies answered your query OK?

Cat programming hangs - dirty work afoot

Two people have now reported to me that my program installs OK, the COM PORT works, but the program then freezes during startup.

If you are running any other AR-DV1 control software it appears that it may be designed to switch the RES.CODE to 'OFF' when it exits, effectively preventing any other software working with the radio.

The firmware default value is 'ON'.

Here is the easy fix:-

With the receiver NOT in Computer Control mode:-

Press 'F'
Press the '7' key

Use the up/down keys to go to page 2/4
The REMOTE.BPS figure should be 115200 (if different change it by turning the tuning knob).

Go to page 3/4
RES.CODE must be set to 'ON'

and PROTECT to 'OFF'

When I release the next version of the program I will switch that RES.CODE to 'ON' when it first runs, without requesting a reply, and also any other setting necessary..

In 'OFF' mode as soon as my program asks for confirmation that a code has been received, as none is returned, it locks itself up in a loop, asking for a reply over and over again.

If as I sadly suspect it is a deliberate attempt to isolate the AR-DV1, then the other program may also try to change the REMOTE.BPS and PROTECT figures too, so check all three.

Just noticed, I have only been working re, the CAT program for 14 hours today, slacking I know, but after all it is Sunday (or was when I started) lol

UPDATE -v 5.016 - AUTO CORRECTS AR-DV1 F/W CHANGES

Good news.

AOR have contacted me and WANT TO ADD DETAILS OF THE CAT PROGRAM TO THEIR WEBSITE and provide support.

V.5.016 now available:-

ardv1

This automatically checks the AR-DV1 and resets the RES-CODE to the correct default value, as mentioned above.

No need to manually check or change it now if it had been altered by another program.

Also added a CHANGE LOG to the bottom of the Instructions PDF.

The program form title now also shows the serial number of the AR-DV1 and the current firmware that is installed.

As always, just download the new setup program and run it. No need to un-install previous versions.

Updated version available

v. 5020 just uploaded to website.

ardv1

Just a few minor alterations, mainly cosmetic, but I believe necessary.

It is worth checking the site regularly and always download / install the latest version, it is very quick to do.

So far only 3 people have reported problems, the first was certainly a bug in the program, which I fixed immediately. The other two were to do with some software switching the RES-CODE setting to OFF, and as per a previous post I added a routine which automatically switches it back to 'ON' again.

Surprisingly nobody else has contacted me. Either lots have downloaded and tried the program and have had no questions, or most of you believe the program is really an armed thermo nuclear device, and will explode on impact lol.

Sorry got to go now, making 'heavy water' and distilling Uranium is a tedious business.

Don't forget the 40% discount offer for owners of the Butel software will expire soon.
