Are the ham repeaters this dead everywhere now?

I bought a buddipole i think either the deluxe or the long version. i set it up for 20 meters but i haven't made any contacts. it is new to me so i just have to get use to to setting it up. from what i read there is just about no limit as to where you can use it on the band. i just bought a kenwood ts480hx it is a really nice radio and am going to get these two together in the spring.
