Having trouble receiving Arlington P25 system on GRE PSR 600. Live in Arlington. All other local systems, DC, Alexandria, Fairfax are loud and clear. Some Arlington P25 transmissions are crystal clear, others garbled, broken or non existent. Can anybody help with radio settings or programing? Thanks.

You might want to check the threads here and in the GRE forum about W4UVV's problems in Petersburg. Arlington has a new P25 system and your problem might be the simulcasting.

I often get better mobile reception on these kinds of systems by using a portable with an 800 duckie antenna inside the vehicle. A mobile or base with an external antenna may be hurting more than it's helping in an environment like yours. Also try using your attenuator.

Arlington old vs new

So is Arlington keeping the old system on the air with a handful of "important" talkgroups? Or are all of them patched to the old system for the indefinite future?

I'm seeing activity on 34416 which is Arlington Fire 1B tonight. I haven't gotten to programming the digital system yet, but its control channel sounds miserable to my ear here in McLean just over the Arlington County line. This has always been a Bermuda Triangle for rf energy, I just hope I have better results than others have had.

Thanks for any tips.

Yes, the old system will be kept on the air for the foreseeable future. They are only simulcasting a few of the talkgroups, like PD 1A and FD 1A/1B. A few agencies remain exclusively on the analog system, like Falls Church PD.

Also I have found 860.7625 to be used as a control channel on the Arlington P25 system. It is not listed as such on the database.

Don't keep it a secret! Submit the update on that page so that it finds its way into the database eventually.

I've been monitoring at I-66 and Glebe Road the past few days. Arlington comes in pretty solid here, but Fairfax is hit or miss. When I make it back up just over the line in McLean next week I'll see, but sitting on the desk up there yielded only moderate results on both Arlington and Fairfax.

Maybe the next big firmware update will make these better.
