Hello everyone,
I used to listen to Armored Transport on 452.775 and Brinks in the low band. Looking at their trucks, I can see that they have switched to new frequencies. Does anyone have some info? I know Brinks have Driver to Car frequencies in the 461 range. Thanks for the help.
Tom
P.S. Any Armored Car frequencies would be appreciated.

They all use nextel or similar services now...to avoid people listening in for security reasons.

I am sure they are licensed, Do a FCC search.

About not giving out the frequencies.. Many police agencies say the same thing about their channels, doesnt seem to stop us.

Thanks

police is different, they're a public agency and we as citizens have a right to hear what's going on.

armored cars on the other hand, it's ok to listen to, nothing wrong with that, but i feel wierd about giving the frequencies out on the internet where anyone (including criminals/terrorists/etc) can find them.

but whatever.

My opinion, I think criminals having Public Safety frequencies is more of a threat than criminals having armored car frequencies.

i disagree, LE expects criminals to have scanners, and uses NEXTELs on calls where they think the criminal may have one.

ever seen swat in action on a raid? they use cell phones. not radios, cell phones. usually with headsets or they get the earpiece that holds the phone in place on their ear.

Folks we can put this one to rest. A dedicated riminal doesnt need anyone to get frequencies for them. They will already have them.

Yes, I have seen SWAT action in a raid. We use the radio.

Not to start a war, but I don't think we "have a right" to hear what's going on either.

Actually, we do. Absolutely not to start a war, but the airwaves belong to the public and while the use of certain portions of them is meted out in a decidedly pricey and anti-citizen fashion, we should be free to listen to anything being broadcast so long as doing so does not directly infringe on someone's rights. That's why there are laws against tapping phones, listening in on cellphones, etc. Yet AFAIK, there are no laws prohibiting the gathering of signals from general aviation planes, military aircraft, police cars, buses, trains, ships...all of which are also targets of opportunity when bad guys get involved.

Brinks is no different and should be treated as such. Anyhow, you can gather more information by simply watching the trucks than you'll get by listening in. Listening is a matter of public interest, nothing more and nothing less. ;)

Not sure what all the hype is about here. You're NOT going to hear things like:

"Base to unit 1, Bank of US is ready for pickup at 100 W. 5th St. The safe combination is 05-45-09. Deliver the cash to 600 E. 105th suite 5. Door code is 45695."

So there is no threat to security by listening to these freqs. If so, it would be the responsibility for the business to encrypt or use telephones for sensitive traffic. Its been a very long time since I've heard an armored cars radio traffic, but 20 years ago it went pretty much like:

"Base to 1, 10-66 at 571, Code 40, report 10-99.

As far as SWAT goes cellphones/NexTel may be used in some places, but radios are usually used, you won't generally hear comms over repeaters, they're often very low power and you won't hear them unless you're within shouting distance of the operations anyway.

They probably use Nextel because it is cheaper and easier.

Most armored car companies are just busienss and have no more right to protection from listening than teh local plumber (who also went to Nextel because its easier and cheaper). :)

You are right, we don't have a right to hear, only the right to listen (Try to hear).

If you don't want me to be able to listen to your radio transmissions, don't go transmitting them through my house.

Or encrypt them.

But don't try to say I should not encrypt them just because they go through your house! :)

Brinks uses Nextel in LA county and surrounding areas. As far as a criminal using bank transports radio traffic... It would offer no advantages. Someone who is going to rob one of these things is going to need a lot more than just the times they arrive to get away with any amount of money. If you look at all bank transports that have been robbed, most of them were inside jobs and were only successful becuase the driver was in on it. Almost all other attempts end up with the robber dead, or in jail.
