Early Morning Arvada Fire Goes Defensive | 5280FIRE
02/11 ~ At 03:50 Arvada Firefighters were dispatched to a reported garage fire at 7122 Swadley Court. Battalion 1 arrived on scene of a single story residential structure with a fully involved attached garage. Arriving Engine 3 hand jacked back to the plug in the culdesac and pulled a 1 3/4″ line and went into offensive mode. Truck 6 set up a back-up 1 3/4″ line off of Engine 3 and started PPV. Engine 3 made entry into the garage and encountered low visibility and had difficulty attacking the fire. With heavy fire showing from the roof command advised dispatch to send out the evacuation tone and advised crews to go into a defensive strategy. PD evacuated the exposed structures while Engine 5 pulled another 2 1/2″ to protect the exposed structure on the Bravo side. The crew from Truck 6 secured the utilities and started pulling ceiling from the Charlie side. Firefighters battled fire and cold temperatures for 40 minutes before Command was able to declare the fire under control. Crews had extensive overhaul of the garage and attic areas. The residents were able to self evacuate and no other injuries were reported. A victims advocate was called to the scene to assist the displaced homeowners. The fire is under investigation.
