Anyone in the Asheville or WNC area notice an unusual increase in marine radio abuse....mainly hunters??? I know hunters have used marine radio in inland areas, but it just seems like it has increase exponentially. I heard two knuckleheads on channel 16 for several days....using it like a CB. I can somewhat understand channel 68 or 69. It is so easy to tell these guys....They have a giant CB antenna....usually a huge coil with whip or a Wilson 5000 mounted right on the hood and then a shakespear VHF boat radio, not a larsen or a simple VHF 1/4 wave, but a friggin boat antenna mounted to the side of the dog kennels in the back of the truck; What a set-up. I usually keep some marine channels in my radio and scanner for when I travel to TN, but had to take them out due to the radio traffic....Hey Biily-Bob you out there???? or how about ya' crankshaft????. I love it when I go to Tennessee and these goofs use channel 16.....Coast Guard sector Louisville keys up and lays down the law....."move your radio traffic to a non-working channel"!!!

That's interesting. I keep Marine 16 and 22 on the scan lists in my work vehicle as well as my personal truck and only occasionally hear CGG Ft Macon or Wrightsville Beach - nothing local. Guess if you drive your truck in/through a river occassionally, you could make the argument that you are on a "navigable waterway". Just kidding...

Yeah, I've seen that around here. I'll keep an ear out for them. It might keep me entertained (and hell, I might even know them.....)
