Jake, might want to take your scanner and sit at one of the tables for a couple of hours and enable Close Call ....

You may also want to program in the "DOT" simplex frequencies to your scanner, a lot of department stores use them since they only have a small handful of people using radios and so they don't have to deal with the FCC red tape.

By the way, I can confirm that a lot of department stores use the Red and Blue dot frequencies. Some use the GMRS/FRS bubble pack radios.

The Wal-Mart in my local town uses the Blue Dot frequency in their radios.

As always, your mileage may vary.

I am using BC436hp for scanning

I am not familiar with the home patrol scanners. I have a 396T. I can tell you that unless you are very close to a store (or inside it) most times you will not pick up what is going on, simply because the walls blocks the signal from leaving the building. The people using walkies are transmitting at low power. I have a hard time picking up what is going on inside my local Walmart from the parking lot but no problem picking up inside the store.

From the looks of it, the Asheville Mall has a repeater in place to extend coverage, but I'm sure that it too is low power and probably can't be picked up very far once you get out of the mall parking lot. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire repeater system wasn't indoors.

I would say your safest bet for picking up mall traffic would be to monitor inside the building orbbe sitting in the mall parking lot. Outside of that I doubt you will pick up much.

This frequency sounds like the mall 464.5625 and I looked on the search for North Carolina but nothing comes up
