ASP reception

Can someone explain to me why ASP transmissions sound "robotic" sometimes. I am using the 396 with a scantenna pointed to the SSE from west Conway?

It's frustrating to see the TGID locked in and no sound or to have it break up.

It is digital. All digital transmissions sound that way on a scanner, they are very clear on the unit radios though. Both RS and Uniden have similar sound, so it's not the radio you have. The part where you hear nothing but have a tag is because with digital, it is very black and white. If there is no one speaking, it looks like the tag is locked up when it isn't.
