• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have taken my spectra from the mounting brackets and plugged her up to change some very simple information, and low and behold there is a problem. I have re-installed my RSS several times, and Still there is an issue. Won't read radio, won't load backed-up data. All around a crappy situation. I am using it as a scanner in the car, and yet she doesn't want to function. What should I do? I have heard of the CPS, will that work with XP?

Yes, CPS is all Windows based, RSS is for more older computers that tend to be slower well, base i could say an old computer that either runs windows 98 or lower but i seen my shop use XP but he was using RSS but did an MSDOS start on power up. So i couldnt tell ya what the best advice could be.

You may have an old RSS software that needs to be updated or the firmware on the astro saber is not compatible, I couldnt really tell you more since i never used the astros before.

I would ask the shop if you want to spend a few bucks to get it looked at by a technician.

Thanks

I took the radio over to a buddy tech friend of mine and nothing seems wrong with it. He advised me to try again and plug everything up, slow my computer down and use a program to do so. He said if I want to use the XP computer to buy CPS, as you are stating the same.

Where the hell do you get a CPS?

To my knowledge unless that firmware is made to work with all astro radios, it should but XTS300 is a motorola astro radio but.. I dont know, i wouldnt test to find out, call a local radio shop and ask a technician if it would work.

Mmm to add, I guess spectra's should be the same but i would ask a tech just to be safe :D unless someone else here has prior experience, i use the XTS3000 and Astros in the RMP but never had the experience of programming and seeing whats listed inside the zones.

I know you can find some lower priced XTS3000 radios, I've seen them buy it now for around $250 for a model I, I programmed a few of them, they are tricky at first, but RSS is hard to come by now that CPS is used for most modern radios, I don't think motorola supports or sells RSS anymore?,
As for the CPS, I am gonna check into it to see if I can program your spectra for you...

No, Astro Saber / XTS3000 CPS will not program a Spectra. There is a specific release for the Spectra.

Lot's of misinformation in this thread.

1) You must run Astro Mobile RSS under pure DOS. No DOS windows! You must boot into DOS and then you should be able to run the RSS. I've used all sorts of different speed computers including Pentium's but the bottom line is you must be in pure DOS.

2) CPS is Windows based and will work fine with XP.

3) Astro Saber and XTS3000 software will not work on your Astro Spectra. You need Astro Spectra CPS R05.03.00 RVN4183X.

Boot your computer into DOS mode, fire up your RSS and try to read your radio. Should work unless it's been programmed with a newer version of RSS or CPS. By the sounds of it, it hasn't been.
