• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have successfully messed up my Astro Spectra. I loaded a bad codeplug into it. Now I get fl 43/82 ( sometype of EEprom error) followed by fl 01/90 (control head error). When I attempt to read or program the radio I get the communication with radio failed error and no ack/nac message. The rib box and cables are good.

I have good archives of the radio along with a good srecord. I have tried everything I can think of to get the radio to program but cant get past the no communication error. The internal eeprom may be the culprit, does anyone know how to eitehr blank it or force a file into it?

reveiwing what I did I may have loaded a none ASTRO codeplug to the radio. I have the file loaded to the radio.

Replacing the board is one option I am looking into. If there is some way to force the eeprom to take a file I could rescue the radio.

I have lloked closer at the file placed into the radio and think that since it isnt a proper Astro codeplug this is why I cannot communicate with the unit anymore.

If the codeplug was improper or not the correct one for your radio, the CPS would have complained.

Sounds more like communications were messed up during programming.

About all you can do is get it to take a proper codeplug or force an s-record in.

If that doesn't work, then you are probably looking at board level repairs or a replacement vocon.

Sometimes you'll find good donor q split radios on eBay really cheap.

I have checked the file loaded and it is bad.

If I could get arround the no communication error I ahve all the materials nessessary to reload the srecords. It is looking more and more like its time to replace the vocon.

sounds like someone screwing around with lab and not knowing what they're doing.

LOL @ 'field upgrades'..

Close but not quite correct. I selected the wrong file to load. One of these days I will learn how to read. LOL not upset just annoyed :)
