• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a premade accessory connector for an Astro Spectra, that has a wired in 3.5mm auido out jack that I used to record the receive auio out of the radio. That radio has been replaced by an APX, and I see that Motorola has two Astro Spectra to APX wiring harness adapters. Which, if either, of these would work for plugging my premade audio out Spectra plug into my new APX? The premade Spectra plugs only have speaker, ignition, and the 3.5mm line out wires.

Your existing recording cable probably uses pin 11 (RX Audio, fixed level) and pin 8 (Ground), the HKN6158 would be the correct adapter for your application.

To avoid the cascading set of adapters you could also just wire up the 3.5mm jack to a 26 pin APX accessory plug. The RX audio would be on pin 21 and ground is on pin 1 or 14.

Also, you might want to check your signature line.

Eek, I will amend that.

I've got a Mototrbo speaker kit that came with a make it yourself connector...I assume for running cable...guessing those pins would be the same for the APX/XTL connector?

Nope, TRBO mobiles uses a physically different accessory connector, the connector shells & pins are not interchangeable with APX.

Where would I find a batch of the APX/XTL pins? Not having luck on an eBay search.

Does your radio have the Accy AKA ign connection?

The listing is the pins for the ACCY connector.

Adapter arrived, plugged it in, no audio...

I then simply shoved the signal wire into hole 21 on the rear port, then ground into pin 1, and audio instantly emmitted at proper levels from my PC. Yay...ordering a couple of pins now.
