If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm trying to program my Motorola Astro Spectra radio to beep when I press the PTT button on the microphone. I was thinking this was called "TX Emphasis" but I don't Think that Is correct. I can not find the option to turn on the beep for transmit.
Also, I am trying to get the Unit ID to display when a user keys up. With it being only an 8 character screen will it just show the unit number with out "ID: " or will it not show it at all?

Are you talking about MDC being sent PRE with the tone?

MDC ID will only be displayed if your radio has "digital ID decode" as an enabled flash-code option. It will display only the numbers.

The beep that you are most likely talking about is due to MDC Signaling being enabled. The beep notifies the user that the MDC tone has been transmitted and you are then able to talk. In order to get the transmit beep that you desire you will need to enable MDC signaling, and in the settings set it for "Pre and Post". This will cause the beep that you are referring to.

Note that endless you are using a system set up for this kind of technology, MDC is just extra noise on frequency that some may find annoying.

Im not talking about MDC. MDC is not used in my area. I'm talking about the beep the radio makes when you key up the mic. as far as the unit ID, I'm referring to the digital ID for P25.

If you're talking about the quick three beep PTT tones radios use when on trunking systems its not an option on conventional channels, even digital conventional channels. If your radio is secure equipped you can make it do a single short beep when PTT is pressed. Under the secure section, advanced tab check the box that says "Tx Clear Alert Tones".

For the digital ID to display the radio needs to have "Digital ID Decode" option enabled in the flash code as mentioned above. Also in CPS, in Radio configuration, Display & Menu, under PTT ID tab check box for ID Display needs to be selected.

You'll have to have a secure module in the radio or adp software based to enable it "tx and rx clear tone". If no key is loaded you will also get a key fail tone so often, If I recall I believe that can be disabled but it may display key fail still so often or still bonk no key is present.

The same tone is also used for priority rx alert in scan mode when enabled during a scan for the priority parked channel your on.
