The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I have a Motorola Astro Spectra W4 High power VHF (model number: T04KLF9PW4AN). I'm wanting to use the system 900 setup with the DEK control heads to control my lights & sirens. Is a setup like this possible and if so what all will i need?

The W4 head will control the Motorola siren, There may be a cable for the DEC box to the control head that you need for more options.

Yes, it's possible.

I believe you'll need to define some buttons on the control head for its use or purchase a DEK and the short cable that connects it to the control head.

I'm wanting to connect my current Astro Spectra to the Spectra Systems 9000 (HLN1185) and have a Auxiliary Switch Panel / Wildcard Box ( HLN1196A) control all the emergency lights, and a DEK Control Head (HLN1241D) control the siren. I know the radio will connect to the siren via cable HKN4363 I just have a few questions about the other cables and set up.
1. The DEK Cables are HKN4273 but how do they connect to each other with it being multiple "control heads".
2. How is the Auxilary Switch Panel / Wildcard Box programmed?
3. How is the siren speaker connected to this system?

I've never seen it done with the Systems 9000 siren. I had the Astro Siren hooked up to my W3 high poeer. Interconnect cable comes off the auxiliary port and feeds the box and/or the switch box or DEK. My understanding of a W9 setup is the DEK can be directly chained to the head and not back via the auxiliary port.

I've done more research on this and my terminology is wrong, I'm not wanting a System9000 set up (I don't think anyway) I'm wanting the Motorola Astro Siren (HLN1439C). I have found everything I need for that as far as cables and switch box. My confusion starts with wanting to control the lights with the Auxilary Switch panel (HLN1196A). How is this done? Like I stated above, I run a 110watt VHF Astro Spectra W4 and I want the AUX Switch box directly below the radio head to control the lights and directly below that I want the Siren Switch box. is this possible?

Will you be using a switch box or DEK for the siren? I don't know if DEKs can be stacked on the W4 like they can the W9 but they should be about the same size so I don't see why you couldn't do it I just don't know how it would interface.

I will be using DEK's for both the Siren and lights. I remember seeing an option in CPS to program i think up to 3 DEK's. I could be wrong as I know absolutely nothing about all of this. To me the siren set up seems simple enough, the problem im having trouble understanding is control the lights with the other DEK.

I've never done lights via the DEK so I would think there is either a GPIO that you utilize or an interface box. Where I would find that…no clue. I bet it is in the siren service manual.

After much research last night, I think I finally figured it out. As stated before, I think the Astro Siren will be no problem. The Motorola Auxiliary Switch Panel/ Wildcard Box is its own set up. It has a 25pin connection on the box for the 8 buttons (6 on/off, 2 momentary). from what I understand, they are only 1amp buttons so the buttons must go to relays. I read a post that some people used TSD PDC-10 Circuit Boards.
I don't really know how to make cable and can not find one on the internet. I don't know if motorola made one or people just built there own. Here are a few links I found this info from.

Motorola Auxiliary Switch Panel (Wildcard Box) labels? - Batboard

OLD MOTOROLA LIGHTBAR RELAY KIT. - Batboard

There are plenty of the switch panels online at a decent price, so finding one of those shouldnt be a problem. but if anyone has any knowledge on where to find a cable and a relay circuit board that would be appreciated.

I don't know why I have not seen this thread until tonight. So I am late to the party on this one.
I have not used a radio with the siren DEK attached so I don't have much knowledge on that.
As far as your lighting controls, I currently use the HLN1196A for my lighting controls. So I can help you out there.
You are correct in that each switch is rated for less than 1 amp each so relays are needed no matter how small device is connected.
The DB25 connector on the back will give you pins that are positive and negative for backlighting. Also 3 pins for each switch with a small exception. You will get a common, NO, and NC contact for each switch. The exception is one of the switches (possibly #4) only has pins for common and NO. I have the documentation. Would have to search if you need it.
I built my cable using a cable I got from a local wire supplier that was 22guage and 12 conductors. I picked up a DB25 build your own connector from radio shack. Crimped the pins myself and placed them in the DB 25 connector in the appropriate places according to the pin out diagram of the HLN1196.
I found a relay box that was built specifically for use with the HLN 1196 switch box. It has 8small relays. Common inputs. NO inputs and NC inputs for the HLN1196. It then has the 12v input and accy connections for your devices. I have an extra one if your interested. Will sell it on the cheap.
I wired my wildcard box as negative switched. That way I eased on the side of caution for the wildcats box.
I can send you all the documentation I have on the HLN 1196 if you need or want it.
Let me know if you want more info on the relay box I have.
Let me know if you need any more info or help.

Astro Siren AMP Mount

Hello all,
I just purchased and received the Motorola Spectra Astro siren AMP (HLN1439C). I was wondering if there was a mounting bracket for the unit. If so what is the part number and wheee could I get one.
