Astro25/P25 Radio ID's

Does anyone know the highest radio ID that an Astro25 system(6.X) will accept? I know that CPS will allow any Dec # between 1 and 16,777,211 to be used in an Astro25 subscriber, But I'm being told by Motorola that the limit is 64,000 in the ZC, same as type II systems. Are these ID's addressed in the P25 standards documents?

Hi Tom;

For customers migrating from a Type II to an Astro 25 system, it might make sense to keep the old radio ids. I'm looking at one system now that evolved that way. Out of 6000 logged subscribers - only two have IDs above the theoretical max 65,535. Obviously those two subscribers work or they wouldn't have been logged.

What you describe might be a kink in the SZ controller software. Regular SZ and Astro25 SZ seem to share some common code.

The standard defines the subscriber ID as a 24 bit number. Zero is never a valid number. There is no mention in the standard for limiting subscriber IDs to 16 bits. Talkgroups are of course 16 bits so they are limited to 65535 max (actually 65535 is the all-call group ID).

Basically - I can't confirm or refute the claim as to this being an actual limitation.

The new controllers allow for all 24 bits with gives you a theoritical ~268 Million if I did my binary right, now how many of them are "reserved" I dont know.

FWIW, 2^24 is more like 16 million.
