• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What he said. Astro 25 VHF mobiles and portables natively cover the entire VHF spectra. Now if it's an Astro Spectra Plus, it's possible that a K split may complain about being OOB below 146MHz, but native Astro Spectra CPS just gives you an error and allows you to enter the lower VHF stuff anyway.

Sorry for the wrong information. It is for an Astro Spectra Plus. I can not program anything under 146.000 MHz into it. I need to add some of the 144 and 145 amateur frequencies. I have several Astro 25 radios and can program them. I know you modify the PatMob file but I am very uncomfortable using hex editor unless I have better directions. I am 76 and have difficulty doing certain things on a computer. Thanks again for your help.

If you’re still looking for help, I can try and see if I can hex edit the CPS or if there is an easier way if I have time tomorrow morning. I will let you know when I get to it.

Wa-a-a-a-y back, in the Time Before Time Itself, there was a well-worn trick for exceeding band edges that entailed simply holding down the Shift key as the heretofore offending data was entered. As I recall, though, there were a couple of caveats, such as:
Releasing the Shift key at the decimal point,
(Maybe?) Needing to use the separate Numeric keys for frets,
And (probably) this only working with Radius CPSs. (Did I mention I'm old?)

Dunno if this'll help, but my info is still a bargain at twice the price, i.e , 2 x $0 = ...

The old shift trick, doesn't work for ASTRO25 radios

That works for a lot of the older DOS RSS packages. But sadly not anything that runs on Windows.

Hex edit CPS and cross your fingers. Most will play down to 144 with the split that cuts off at 146, some get fussy and the VCO won't lock. Good luck!
