What would cause my PS to hum loudly at the exact time everyday and only
at that time, I have a Astron 35A with my Icom 7610 and at exactly 7.02am
till abt 7.10 am it hums loudly and never does it again the whole day or night.

I actually just do not turn on my rig now till 7.15 and mess around with the 8600
till then, everything works fine just at that time only! only thing I can figure is?
(since I rent a loft) my landlord turns something on at that time everyday and it
draws alot of power?? like dishwasher or something ..just guessing I was not
going to post about this but I,m really curious after 4 months of it...tks 73,s

I have heard Astron supplies do that from time to time. It was related to a large electrical load being turned on.
In the previous technician lab I worked at, if one of us fired up a heat gun to melt shrink tube, it'd make all our Astrons hum while the gun was on.
I suspect something is being turned on near you that is doing something to the AC supply.

Those supplies have a pretty good field of hum energy around themselves too. If you use it with a radio with a dynamic mic, keep the mic a couple feet away from the PS as they may induce hum into your transmit signal.

why dont you politely ask your neighbor if and what he turns on about that and tell him whats happening, at least you will know whats going on. and i have seven of these astron power supplies and never heard any hum of any kind on any of them.

Mine usually emits a little hum when turned on for a moment. Current surge I suppose. If the transformer audibly hums all the time maybe you could remount it on rubber grommets or something so it does not vibrate the case. Depends on how tight the laminations are and such. But it transmits the vibrations if not physically dampened or isolated. Not something to get too worried about. These big Astrons play for years and years with no trouble if not abused.
