Isn't $675 million the price of a few jobs? I have been saying that they were selling off their radio division and others said no. Guess what it's like the way of their radios gone.

Open Sky has fallen. I doubt that their will be much more support for this bad egg.

On the Tyco site....

Tyco Electronics Announces Definitive Agreement to Sell Its Wireless Systems Business to Harris Corporation for $675 Million; Announces Preliminary Fiscal Second Quarter Results - Apr 16, 2009

Being that Harris is a big P25 advocate you can bet that EDACS and Open Sky will have a limited life under this comapny...

Either that, or they will do a better job cohabitating the two systems. This will allow "OpenSky islands" to exist in regions dominated by P25 systems.

A greater focus on creating a migration path from Motorola to EDACS and OpenSky would open their market in previously closed opportunities.

I highly doubt that....deploying additional proprietary systems in this day goes against all common sense and is opposite of the P25 initiative. What now needs to occur is the approval of P25 Phase II so those systems that have capacity issues can begin to be relieved of them.

I agree with you, but the problem is that common sense isn't all that common.

It seems that there are still organisations that are receptive and are purchasing non-P25 systems. By creating better interoperability with P25 they remove one more objection to this.

One of the assets that Harris is buying is the Wireless business' Intellectual Property. It wouldn't make sense to pitch that into the garbage.

It is a classic strategy for a company to create a product that solves a problem that they created. With Harris' advocacy of P25, and their access to the IP from M/A-Com creates an opportunity to do this effectively. M/A-Com regarded the use of proprietary technology as a way to lock in their customers to the OpenSky system, and were disinterested in changing that paradigm. Harris may view this differently.
