Hello to all and thanks in advance for your replies.

I visited Atlantic City 2 years ago and had difficulty trying to
monitor the trunk system.

Back then I see it was listed as: Motorola ASTRO 3600 Baud

Today I see it as: Motorola Type II Smartzone
Analog/APCO-25 Common Air Interface

Question: Is the system both analog and digital?
Is it possible to receive using Uniden BC-785D w/card?
Is it possible to receive using Uniden BC-246T?

Only ACPD is digital, everyone else is analog. You can listen to ACPD with the BC785D, but not with the BC246T. For everything else, the BC246T is good.

I live in the Southern End of Ocean County and have a very difficult time monitoring the AC system. It must be very low power. The system does not register at even 1 bar on the BCT15. There was only 1 instance in which I picked up ACFD being dispatched on a fire call and that was on a night when there was alot of Skip bouncing around in the atmosphere. Just an FYI.

I can barely pick it up from within the county limits when heading to the casinos.

I have brought my 246 down to the Borgota ever since I had it and only get the non-digital stuff when I'm in the lobby. Tried briefly on the boardwalk and got it perectly! Let's hope the FD doesn't go digital!!

That might very well be the way the system was designed (ie. lower signal strength compared to other TRS networks). The nearest local comparison I could give you would be Wilmington, Delaware, whose Moto Type I system (remember those?) is strong within the city limits and perhaps about 2-3 miles north of downtown Wilmington and that's about it. Atlantic City is probably the same way, though it's interesting that the rest of Atlantic County's law enforcement is, for the most part, unmonitorable, but Atl. City is digital but clear...
