ATS-20+ Power Problem?

I have owned the ATS-20+ for a short time, and it has developed a problem... I would be most grateful if anyone has some pointers please?

Upon switch-on, the display shows the boot screen, but goes no further as if there's no battery power.

If I plug in the USB C lead, the radio does the same, but reboots over and over.

Interestingly, if I plug in the Mini-Usb, the radio will switch on and work (whilst plugged in)! The charge indicator still shows 0% though.

In fault condition, I was getting 4.1v at the battery terminals, and 4.2v if the USB-C was connected. With the Mini-Usb connected, I'm getting 3.98v at the battery terminals.

This is the original firmware. Thanks.

Edit:
It almost feels like the nano board isn't getting enough voltage from the battery or usbC on the main board, but does it using the Mini-Usb directly mounted in the nano board.

I know this post is now a little old and that you may have solved the problem or junked or returned the radio, but the symptom you describe is classic for the nano not getting enough voltage to run properly. The battery is flat. The fact that the radio runs when plugged into the USB mini lead shows the radio is working and the charging system or battery are not.

With the radio switched off, does the charging LED on the back of the radio light up red when you plug in your USB power lead?

If not, try a different lead. Many of these leads are very cheaply made and some fail. This has happened to me more than a couple of times when using leads supplied with cheap torches with USB C charging ports.

If changing the USB C lead does not solve the issue (red led lights at rear), then you will need to trouble shoot the circuit with a multi meter.

Check the voltage on the two square pads on the bottom of the board right beside the USB C socket. They are marked with + and - signs. When plugged into a working power lead you should see about 4 to 5 volts on those pads. Be careful not to short the probe leads. Take care.

If you do see 4 to 5 volts on those pads, then the socket and power lead are working and the fault is further into the radio.

Check that the battery is properly plugged into the board. There is a white socket is on top of the board near the middle of the board and you can see a small plug with a red and black wire coming from under the board where the battery is. Wiggle the plug that goes into the white socket and see if it changes anything.

Hope you solve the issue.

Hi Shark. I had the same problem with my ATS-20+. The radio has two separate stabilizers for the analog and digital boards. In this case, the stabilizer for the digital board (U2 - CL9901A33L3M) was defective. It is located under the small board, at the back of the radio. To replace it, it is necessary to unsolder the small board from the large one. If you do not have experience with a soldering iron, it is better to seek help from a specialist. In my case, after replacing the stabilizer, everything worked again. I wish you success with the repair.
