I have a Diamond SRH77CA attached to a 436HP.

1. Could that antenna be attached to the 996P2 base model with some kind of adapter?
2. Would that antenna be an upgrade over the stock antenna on the 996P2?

I'm not sure what kind of antenna connector the 996P2 has, but I'd say probably yes. As for antenna upgrades, almost everything's an upgrade to the stock antenna.

I use the Diamond RH77CA (bnc connection) with a right angle bnc adapter on my 996XT and is pretty good reception on for vhf hi and vhf p25.
For 800 mhz I use the old Radio Shack version of the Remtronix REM 800B, which is pretty much the best portable 800mhz antenna made.
Depends on which band you are listening to as to which works best.
You will need the appropriate sma to bnc right angle adapter to use it on the 996P2

OK, Thanks, I see now. I never had a base unit and want to use my SRH77CA with one. Just a simple right angle adapter!
