Good afternoon Bill, Have you been monitoring the Dept Of State Security Service channels for activity ?
If so, please report what you heard if anything, frequencies, ENC or NOT etc...
Thanks Paul

much of the monitoring for the Royals and POTUS visit for this week and today have been:

408.3000R 97.4 - NARA
Mass State Police - SOPS (multiple due to the different escorts and security zones) - MSP Cycles, USCG / Boston / Maritime Nets
Hotel (Business Band Ops) and the local PD's involved with the local traffic

Today, we would expect plenty of USSS channels to become active

As for the State Dept - unlike years past (John Kerry days) - nothing and for those of us who did monitor the ole
409.5250R - been silent since last heard back in July

My suggestion for those in the area, learn to use the SEARCH features 162-174, 400-420 at a minimum

Boston Police and State Police with escort details in the clear

I had traffic on Station H, SOPS 1, 3, 4, 7. SOPS 1 was just State PD motorcycles doing road closures. UMass PD would have been busy and JFK Library Security, 408.300 would have been busy also. The FBI was doing radio checks in the clear, due to bad eyesight I could not see the freq. The PL may have been 167.9. This was a little while before the Prince's plane landed. On Tuesday there were 2 black H60's heading north right over me, flying low and fast while I was waiting for commuter rail about 3:45pm. On Wednesday before the Prince landed there were 2 H60's hovering off of Hull. Logan traffic was landing from the north. When the plane was entering the pattern an H60 from Hull went up to the Gloucester area the other one moved to a position east of Logan. Other big military aircraft were in the area also. The H60's had come from Joint Base Cape Cod. I was using a HP436 with the 842S antenna.

FBI would have been P25 not using an Analog PL Tone

Well 409.5250 IS active, heard it this morning.
Leads me to believe they were using a simplex agent to agent channel
Encrypted, I presume? And is that frequency exclusively repeated or does it also do simplex?

Nope, two units talking in the clear
Interesting. It seems like USSS is (almost) exclusively encrypted. I think they’re radios give them an audible tone when they’re accidentally in the clear. I wonder if the same for USSS? And 409.5250 is conventional (untroubled) P25, correct?

It depends on how the radio is programmed. They can get an alert if the secure switch is off. But I do hear some USSS traffic in the clear on some occasions, so they are not forced to use encryption full time.
