From what I have read Broadcastify instructions say use a mono cable to go from your sound card to the receiver. My sound card has a mono mic input. I am using a mono cable. Is this the best practice?

For a single feed, a mono cable is recommended but a stereo cable will work just fine. In the broadcast software just make sure the mode is set to mono.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with pi's so I'll have to let someone else chime in.

The audio-in port on the usb sound card is mono. No need to set anything.
