I just bought Uniden BCD396XT. When it receives audio the beginning is cut off or sometime the end of the sentence is cut off. It is hard to understand what people are saying. I have good signal strength. Is there some type of delay setting that I can adjust?

For starters, welcome to Radio Reference.
When asking for help, always include the system your are referring to when you scan. It helps us a bunch in helping you figure out some solutions.

Multiple things could be happening, signal overload which could be helped by applying your attenuator.
P25 distortion from a simulcast system, which new firmware was just released to help this problem.
P25 mode adjustments internal to the scanner could help.

Just some thing to consider looking at... :)

Uniden BCD396XT. I scan local police and state highway. The Ohio State Patrol Post 15 tower in Southington Ohio is 1/2 mile from my house. I only get 2 bars on the signal strenth meter. Is there a way to test the radio reception? The Ohio State Highway was programed in from the Uniden Factory. I still miss the beginning or end of what they are saying. I turned off the close call feature. The squelch is turn down on level 2. I ready to return this scanner and give up.

My 396 cut's out at time's too but i'm not Listening to a LSM our System KSICS is a APCO-25 Common Air Interface Exclusive i can tell a Hell of a Difference with this scanner when it's scanning Analog and Digital it's like night and Day). To bad we couldn't shave back some years  to when most or all Systems were strickly Analog.

But i will try that with the Attenuator see if that works and report back N4YEK this i imagine would need to be done on a TG by TG type of way is that Correct ?

Thanks Ra

You all probably have the same problem. It's the priority setting in the radio. If the dropout occurs on a regular, timed basis the radio is quickly reverting to the priority channel in the radio to see if there is a signal on that channel. Thing is that often in scanners and LMR radios the display doesn't change when this "quick listening" function occurs, it just dumps your audio for a half second or so. Check the manual fot the radio in the priority setting section and see if the priority function is turned on, in which case you will probably want to turn it off.

Depends on whether it is stopped on another freq., how many you have it scanning (the more the longer it taked to get back to it) etc.

The post's location has no bearing at all, most are not staffed full time any more. In Trumbull county you have 2 MARCS transmitter sites, Leavittsburg and East Trumbull. (see here for all MARCS info Ohio MARCS - Multi-Agency Radio Communications Trunking System, Statewide, Ohio - Scanner Frequencies

Since you did not program it it is probably loaded with excess and "crap" you don't need, this could also slow it down.

Suggest learning how and program it yourself.

Turning off Priority Scan worked!

Thanks for the help with this question! This worked for me

Turning off "Priority Scan" worked for me. I now do not have any interruptions in receiving transmissions on my Uniden BCD536HP. Thanks!
