I have new audio problem..... audio on recorded clips is fine, then all of a sudden no audio; recordings, but no audio... I have seen similar posts, but not exact problem....

I am running two BCT15X on same computer, running Win10. All updates current. Computer has 16gb RAM, Intel i5-4590 CPU @3.30 Ghz. Two instances of Proscan, each listening to each own scanner. Scanners are connected using USB sound adapter. The only thing running on this computer is the two instances of Proscan, and two instance of Playit Recorder (makes continuous 15 min recording, in addition to the individual clips made by Proscan). I am not using this computer for anything else. Computer is connected to internet via wifi. Both feeds livestream to BCFY. Computer runs 24/7/365. I have been running this set-up for years. There is lots of room on the hard drive, as I have the files auto delete after 5 days, and Recycle Bin auto deletes files that are over 14 days.

Somewhere around October of 2022, I noticed that the clips would suddenly have no audio, but it was very infrequent, so I didn't give it much attention. Well, in the last week or so, the program seems to get a hiccup at least once per day (never at the same time) and the audio drops, although it seems to be recording, but the file size triples or quadruples, and in some cases, there is audio, but it is a loop of the last recorded clip. Audio resolves when I restart Proscan. I am so frustrated. I can't watch this feed 24/7 to make sure it isn't doing something weird. As I mentioned before, this exact set-up has been running for years, with no problems.

When something in windows have been working and without touching anything it has stopped working, suspect that a windows update have broken the function. If you have nothing else on the that computer like passwords and important documents, disable windows updates and try and roll back the updates to one prior to October 2022.

To clarify, both streams always works fine but your Playit recorder sometimes have audio problems?

It could be that windows now have problems to sort out the USB sound cards, it can't really tell the difference between them due to lack of individual indentifications/serial numbers but that would also create problems with the streams.

I would look carefully at all the ProScan settings, take a photo of them, and then delete both ProScan installations and clean the register by using something like IObit's Uninstaller and then install ProScan again and turn off windows updates.

it is not the Playit Recorder files that have no audio, it is the Recordings in Proscan that suddenly will have no audio. The Playit files seem to be fine. When this occurs, the livestream also seems to be impacted, as no audio is being broadcast.

Stop Recorder and any other Proscan service utilizing audio. Click "Audio Control" tab then click the tab for each source you utilize that's affected. Look at the Input Sound Device drop down and ensure your USB adapter is chosen here. Restart each service. If this continues to be a regular issue, there may be something going on with the USB sound card itself causing it to time out. Wouldn't hurt to try connecting it to different USB ports as well to rule out an issue with a port

I was thinking along that line just now. Thinking It could be a intermittent audio cable too.

What recording device have you selected in the playit configuration? Is it the direct line in signal from the scanners or an external USB soundcard? Then it is the audio function in ProScan that have problem to get access to the audio, perhaps when a conversation starts, while windows are also hogging the audio for the playit software. Can you try and turn off playit and see if the audio problem goes away? It can be that ProScan and playit sometimes tries to access the audio at the exact same time and ProScan are more polite in that fight and doesn't repeat the request for access.

I thought about that. I have turned off PlayIt for now, to see if the issue happens. Another post mentioned refreshing the sound cards, so i will be looking in to doing that as well.

Do you use Line In on your PC and left channel to one scanner and right to the other? But I see now that you refer to sound cards, so those are the external mini USB types? You have other things connected to the Line in?

I downloaded PlayIt and its terms explain that they will share my info with their "partners". In the confirmation mail they give a link to activate the software and are written as www.playitsoftware.com but hoovering the mouse over the link says email.mg.playitsoftware.com and my protection softwares warns me about that discrepancy.

I choose a clean email address to use that haven't got any spam or advertisings. After 5 minutes from the registration I received a nice email from a lady who explained that she was very horny and wanted to chat with me if I went to a specific chat site that used a compressed short link beginning with bit.ly

Not using Line In. I have two SABRENT USB External Stereo Sound Adapter plugged into a USB hub, plugged into the PC. Each scanner has audio cable out from external speaker jack on back of scanner into the mic input side of a USB sound card.

Sorry to hear about your close encounter of the horny kind....lol... PlayIt is a UK company, I think.... and I sure don't remember having that issue after signing up with them... lol...

well, PlayIt has been off all day, and the audio messed up around 2030 hr tonight.....absolutely the only thing running on the computer is the two Proscan instances.

Were there any changes to the computer in the last week such as a Windows Update updating a driver?
Perhaps the Windows Event Viewer may shed some light on the problem.

Try doing this if the problem happens again:
Don't shutdown and restart ProScan but instead set the Recorder Audio input to None. If using the Web Server, Source Client, and/or RSOIP features then set those audio inputs to None. After that, set the audio inputs back to the way they were. That will close and reopen the audio device and may help to isolate the problem.

If you don't manage to sort it out, try to use the Line in by using a Y split stereo to mono cable Amazon.com

It's probably easier to share the line input than the USB audio.

I got a couple of USB sound cards and they have no serial number or identification in windows that could make it problematic for windows to know which is which and could depend of in what order they are initialized. I check devices using USBDeview from www.nirsoft.com

In the advanced properties for the recording devices there are some options, like the sampling speed, so check that it matches what both ProScan and PlayIt needs. Also there are two boxes (in Win7) for selecting to allow programs to take full control and give priority. It might be needed to check what those settings do when you share the USB audio between several programs.

I have no clue what I am looking for in the Windows Event Viewer. 'Something' shows in the log around the same time as the audio hiccups, but not every time. The details says "Successfully scheduled Software Protection service for restart at 2123-03-25T07:48:58Z. Reason: RulesEngine."

There was a Security update for windows installed on 4-13-23, also Servicing Stack.

If I set the audio input to None, then set it back to the right source, what would I be looking for in order to isolate the problem?

To see if the audio comes back up and verification of the problem being the audio USB device.

current status 19 Apr at 1300: computer has been running since midnight Sunday night/Monday morning, (60 hr) without Playit and has not messed up yet. Internet Connection Log shows 3 disconnects each for approx 1 sec (random times), which did not seem to impact the recordings. Not calling it fixed, just providing an update.

That makes it look like something in your computer thinks it is the year 2123. Was that a typo, or is something off by 100 years?
