I am migrating my VHF low band audio files from Google to Dropbox and will post links to this thread for some of them. Clicking the folder name should open the link and allow you to listen or download if you're interested.

Could be wrong, but I've heard that before on FM simulcast repeaters where the repeaters are coming in and out of phase.
Sounds like the aircraft refletcions that affected VHF TV back in the day and LAFD on 33 MHz used to do that when received here in TX. I think it's probably simulcast.
If it's not simulcast then it's something else causing multiple signals to appear at the receiver.
On HF you can often have mulipath signals from different areas of the ionosphere but the peaks/fades are never that fast.

Very interesting - thanks for posting these.

They prompted me to check some audio files here of low band VHF comms. I heard from the U.S. in 1991, one of the best sunspot peaks.

Its a long way from the U.S. to here in south east Australia, and the quality of the comms was amazing. I'd post a clip here but they were police comms from various jurisdictions and so they include names and addresses, and I don't know if that would be a privacy issue for the forum.

I had a bunch of frequencies in the 35-43MHz range I'd found active programmed into a scanner, and set a voice-activated recorder going and let it run.

I also have recordings of similar comms from South Africa that same year.

Listing each folder separately is creating too many posts. Here is a link to the main folder - additional folders will be within and will change as I add them so check back over time if you are interested. Any ideas on the unidentified transmissions are much appreciated. If you want to link to your recordings using this thread that would be great also.
