I've just started my Live Feed here on RR. I'm listening to me feed with Windows Media Player. The audio is clear, but isn't really "loud"....

I've set the OddCast input to go "just into" the red area on the setup screen. Is there a setting being adjusted internally that is taking care of any clipping or so that the audio being automatically set by RR?

Is there a way I can tell if I am "overdriving" the audio being sent to your site?

Thanks,

I suggest using ScannerCast. It's alot easier to use then Oddcast, and you don't have to worry about horrible audio because it doesn't cut out when it's too loud like Oddcast. As far as i know, The audio levels for feed providers is being worked on, along with alot of other things. Just be patient. Check out ScannerCast, i'm sure you'll like it! Hope this helps! :)

Steve,

I'm not the master of audio. But I test laptop volume with my laptop - If I can hear a feed good on my standard Dell 1525 speakers with the master volume all the way up and the media player volume at half to three quarters, I consider the audio just right. Usually that coincides with my feeds having the proper audio level if I'm listening to them.

In the case of your feed, it falls into that category - I hear it greater with my master level for the laptop all the way up and the audio level in WMV a little over half way. So i don't think anybody else would have trouble hearing it, and it sounds very clear to my ears - no clipping.

Thanks!

I appreciate that! It sounds OK in my Media Player, but I have to turn that colume all the way up....I just was worried it was too low for listeners.

No, I don't think it is too low - but I also don't think it is so loud that turning it up would make it clip. If you can get the level up a little bit you should, for your own sake - after all, you're providing the feed and deserve to hear it well using your own computer.

I don't run Oddcast now - I run ScannerCast, which currently doesn't have a way to show audio level . But when I used Oddcast, I always found that I would run the audio level up into the red. It wasn't constantly in the red, but I definitely had it turned up loud enough to peak into the read all the time. Turn yours up some if you want - we all can tell easily enough if it starts to clip. As clear as it is now, I don't think you'll have a problem.

I personally try to have my Mic/Line Input volume control set between half and three quarters and then I turn up the scanner's audio itself until I have the wanted output audio level. Running too much audio from the scanner into the computer is bad, and I don't think that running the input audio level in the sound card input volume control all the way up is good either. So try to finda happy medium with those two.

i guess im different my mic input is just cracked open and in oddcast and i never let it go into the red
i have monitored mine with another pc and yes the level is abit low but i would rather listen to clean undistorted audio than terrible clipped overdriven distorted audio ive found on some other feeds
just my 2 cents

after some more thought .... the reason for using the mic input is because oddcast defaults to that for example you lose your internet connection temporarly it reboots after so many seconds ...
feeding 8 ohm speaker audio into a mic input is not the ideal setup reason for the input slider just being cracked open where as a line input would be better suited you can change it in oddcast to different setting if your sound card supports it im currenly using the stereo mic in on the front and the line in on the back of the pc
a stereo feed and have just added a 3rd scanner so i have a stereo mix in the left plus another on the right
