If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I thought I read that the KCH-20 will do both deck audio from the single KES-5 attached to the head. I just re-read the help and I'm more confused.

I'm looking to get the unselected deck audio to come out of the KES-5 attached to the KCH-20, but at a lower level, so I don't have to watch the control head while driving and scanning both decks. What am I missing?

I just want to confirm you want audio from both decks at the head speaker? If so, you have two options: Single Audio Output (which will make deck 1 priority no matter what, even if unselected) or Multiple Audio Output (which you appear to have selected) which requires a speaker connected to each deck (and the speaker connected to KCH-20R is Selected deck).

The radios will not mix the audio from multiple decks onto a single speaker connected to the KCH-20R.

Crud. I thought I read that the multiple audio was part of the 20R/21R being able to see both decks at once.

I may have 1 more KAP2, but I certainly don't have 2. I bought everything for this setup this way due to space, I even had to move the UHF deck because my first location didn't have the space I thought it did. I certainly don't have a way to get 3 speakers overhead. I had room for 2 floor KES5 speakers from KAP2 with the KCH-19 in my truck, but not in this vehicle (severe downside to this is the KES5 even at -9db can overwhelm the internal speaker of the KCH-19).

I suppose I could use the speaker out on the back of each deck combined to a single speaker. Would this cause damage to the "other" decks audio circuit?

What if I used a breakout cable (2 mono to 1 stereo) like this one then connect it to a Yaesu MLS-200, which is designed to take left/right sides of a radio and combine them to a single speaker (I have this speaker on the shelf unused). I may be able to hid this speaker under a seat, though that space is used for other things. Any other ideas?

I should have tested this feature on the bench and I didn't.

I don't see why that speaker wouldn't work for you, then you don't need the KAP-2 adapters. It's worth a shot at this point.

I'll report back when I get back to this project, hopefully this weekend.

The above breakout cable plus the Yaesu speaker were installed last night. The audio sounds crisp and clear, and the balance is much better than the KCH19 internal compared the KES5 external deck speakers. The Yaesu is also pretty small and tucked right under a seat to be hidden away.

I may have to give that a shot, I'm not looking forward to a ton of speakers in my new truck so I was contemplating dumping the NXs.
