Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

CDM Audio Very Tinny

I recently bought a couple of CDM1250 radios from a seller and I have a couple of questions regarding the audio I'm getting from them vs the CDM1550 I have.

First off, the audio sounds very tinny. Like there's no low-mid and low end. I'm an audio guy so to use that terminology, it's like the high pass filter (or low cut) has been rolled way up to like 200Hz or something. Maybe 300Hz. Is there a setting in the software somewhere that would be the cause? The 1550 I have has a nice, full, clear sound but these 1250s sound very tinny and, quite frankly, unpleasant to listen to with only mids, high-mids, and highs being passed out the speaker.

The other thing is they both make a squelch tail noise at the end of receiving every transmission. My CDM1550 is nice and quiet but these two 1250s have a noticeable squelch tail, either like the squelch needs adjusted or, again, is there some setting somewhere that affects this?

Suggestions, ideas, or input appreciated.

OK, well your comment made me look again (probably the 6th time) for something...anything...and I finally saw a check box that says "Audio Processing Filter". Unchecked it, wrote to the radio, and everything is now full sound like the 1550. So, that takes care of that. Thanks @K2NEC ! I didn't find where "compander" is (though I think I've seen it before...) but I did find this check box while looking line by line again. Now sure why I didn't notice that one before...
