Police suspect alcohol may have been involved in Saturday night's firetruck SUV collision.
AURORA (MyFoxColorado.com) - An Aurora fire engine on its way to an emergency call, becomes part of an emergency itself.
Firefighters say the engine was on its way to a medical call with lights and sirens on.
It was turning right onto 30th Avenue at Peoria when an SUV tried to pass on the right. They say the SUV hit the fire engine then hit a parked car.
Police say alcohol is suspected and the driver is facing several possible charges.
The driver had serious injuries and the passenger had minor injuries. Firefighters say this kind of disregard for emergency vehicles is far too common and it's hard to see someone get hurt.
"It just amazes me sitting in the front of an apparatus what I see," says Captain Mike Ackman.
"You'd think in a big red fire truck or fire engine that people see you, that people know what you're doing. Nope. They'll pass you on the right side. They'll pass you on the left."
Firefighters want to remind drivers to pay attention and yield to emergency crews.
