I heard from a friend of mine that seems to know a sorce who thinks that Aurora Fire will be going ALL digital including all tac channels and dispatch with the ESK codes on the channels. He also stated that APD will be doing ALL digital now, including the dispatch, which is analog with the same codes. Can anyone verify this or is it another rumor? Please let me know. Thank you

ESK is a control channel feature that doesn't have anything to do with the voice being digital or analog. I believe the plan was always that the dispatchers would be digital once they figured out why they sounded so bad.

For the FD Tac channels, I think they started digital and changed to analog because digital is so hard to understand in a noisy environment and with breathing apparatus on. So I'd be surprised if they went back, but maybe.

Aurora PD is Pro-Voice not digital. Not sure about fire.

Some Aurora P.D. channels are still analog however the rumor is you won't hear both sides of the conversation - FYI

No offense, but Provoice is M/A Com's latest digital modulation. It's not APCO 25 digital, but it is digital.

I didn't really understand it either. I have talked to a couple dispatchers and they said that they hoped that Fire never went back to digital because of the noise. I know that on APD side, you can only hear dispatch, but on fire side, I can hear everything. I hope it stays that way!

Maybe I'm missing a channel somewhere, but I can hear both sides of the Aurora Fire, but not all of their transmissions. For example, I'll hear Engine 7 getting an update from dispatch and then acknowledging it. Then after a while, I'll hear dispatch say "Engine 7, copy that". But I never heard what Engine 7 said! Does anybody else notice this? Do they use a lot of status buttons like Denver fire?

Yes, this is because they are talking on the dispatch channel, which the field rigs and portables are digital and Dispatch is not. This channel is digital on the Portables side along with tacs 4, 5 and 6, ADMIN, TRAINING and also RMA 1 and 2. Dispatch on fire side works exactly like PD side

I think what's happening is that when the trucks are on the dispatch channel they are digital, but the dispatcher is analog. On the Tac channels they are both in analog (at least for now).

It's a couple weeks shy of a year since Aurora switched over, and they are still flipping the police consoles back and forth every couple months for a few days. On 01/27, the consoles went digital, and now 01/29 they are mostly back to analog.

The police side might eventually make it stick... Fire is mostly concerned with audio echo and delay on fireground channels; it is unlikely that they will switch back to digital.

While ESK is unlikely in the near future, specific Units using voice channel crypto is already a reality.

While in the city of aurora if you see a city utility truck parked inside, go over and look at it. It will have monogram series type mobile radios inside of it. These radios are analog only edacs radios that work on the new ma-com system. However, they are not esk capable. This shows that the esk feature will not be turned on for a long time. These are new radios that were purchased with the system to be used by the non public safety enities of the city.

Also, regarding the fire dispatch question asked above about does the fire side use "buttons" like denver does. All the FD units have MDC (panasonic laptops) installed in rigs. They get their dispatches over these units plus by voice. They do have "f" keys that they use to put themselves on scene and such.

RF-Intel, Can you clue me in on what ID's are encrypted.

Thanks,
