Aurora Officer Involved, as paged

Aurora, Colo. – Shortly before 12:30 PM today the Aurora Fire Department was called to a house in the 1600 block of S. Buckley Way. Family members called AFD because of concerns of the behavior of a 55-year-old male in the house.
AFD Paramedics arrived on scene and encountered a male who was naked at the top of the stairs. They engaged in conversation with the male, but he became increasingly agitated. He then retreated to a room and emerged with what witnesses described as a machete. AFD personnel retreated from the home and called Aurora Police. Officers arrived within minutes, and three officers entered the house. Officers encountered the male at the top of the stairs, where a confrontation occurred. The subject was armed with two large knives. Two of the officers were struck. One officer fired at least one round, striking the male subject, causing him to go down. Paramedics were immediately called inside and rendered aid. The male was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The officers did not sustain serious injuries.
None of the involved parties are being identified at this time.
Major Crimes Unit/Homicide detectives responded to lead the investigation. At this point in time, investigators are waiting for a search warrant for the home. Once obtained, Crime Scene Investigators and detectives will go inside to further investigate and collect evidence.
As is standard procedure in all officer-involved shootings, the officer who discharged his duty weapon has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review of this incident.
