AURORA - Police are investigating the third shooting this month involving an officer in the greater Denver metro area.
The shooting happened Wednesday night just before 10 p.m. at a home near Baltic and Waco Court in Aurora.
The homeowner called police and told them she had a gun and was threatening to kill herself.
After officers arrived they found Melinda Espinoza, 24. Officers tried to subdue her but she pulled out a gun and an officer shot her in the leg. Espinoza was taken to an area hospital and was later arrested on charges of violating a restraining order and an outstanding traffic warrant.
The officer involved, whose name has not been released, is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
Two other shootings are being investigating in the metro area; one involving Denver Police and the other involving a state parole officer.
