Does anybody know the locations where the Rural-Metro ambulances in Aurora are "stationed"? I know many of them are not in actual stations, but are parked outside. I am wondering where, when I'm listening to dispatch, for example, Medic 101 is coming from, etc.

They operate on a modified Systems Status Management (SSM) system, much like DG so when one call drops often 3 ambulances move. While there are actual stations most units don't see there stations during the day and frequently only for short periods at night as well. There "stations" during the day are 7-11's and others wonderfully fun high traffic intersections.

I know Rural Metro admin up north is a station, and South side of Iliff about 2 blocks west of I-225 in an office park is station and I will get you the others.

RMA headquarters is located on Peoria and Smith. Jim is right though. They are always posting at different locations.

I've never gotten around to entering Aurora in a scanner since they went Provoice, but just curious. How much of the EMS traffic can you monitor?

On the RMA 1 and RMA 2 channels, you cannot monitor anything. Both dispatch and the medic units are provoice on those talk groups. However, when a medic unit gets a call, they switch over the the AFD tac 2 channel which is programmed in their radios. You can hear the medic units go en route on that channel along with all of the AFD fire apparatus. AFD Dispatch, Tac 2, Tac 3, and FERN are all analog EDACS channels. Tacs 4,5,and 6, ADMIN, RMA-1, RMA-2 and Training 1 and 2 are all provoice and not monitorable unless you have a provoice radio.

I have a lot of fun listening to Aurora FD. It is still pretty active.

Regarding Rural-Metro, I have seen one of the Medics (104?) having space in an office building off Iliff Ave. Also, I believe on of them normally responds from Aurora South?

Sometimes I hear them say "Medic 106 responding from quarters" or something like that, and that's why I was asking where they normally stage.

Medic 104 is at an office building, however it is quartered at Chambers and Hampden. I am not sure about the Aurora south one, I don't think there is one there though. The only medic related person out at south that I know of is AFD Med-7, who picks up and returns all of AFD's medics that ride into the hospital from a call. I know that some ambulances "hop" calls while they are at south and available, but other than that, I don't know.

Since I have gotten a lot of experiences riding with them, here are the locations I have discovered:

Rural/Metro:

M. 101 - Peoria and Smith Road (seperate 'quarters' from dispatch and admin, but still in the same building)

M. 102 - Located about 1/2 mile to the North of Havana and Alameda in the small strip mall there.

M. 103 - Located to the east of Peoria and Iliff in the large building to the right (south)

M. 104 - Located to the west of Hampden and Chambers behind 'Taco Bell' in the rear of the medical building there.

M. 105 - Located to the South of Mississippi and Chambers (South East of King Soopers)

M. 106 - (Supervisor Car) Based at HQ w/ M.101, but moves about the city to post

M. 107 - Unknown

Lifelink 200 - Quartered with M. 101 also at HQ

Hope this helps a little.

Frank,

Since Aurora has partly changed from Provoice to Analog, Aurora fire did somewhat as well. As you might notice, you can hear the dispatchers on Analog on the AFD ADMIN channel and you can also hear all traffic on Training channels 1 and 2. However, those channels used to be all provoice.

Also, Yes, the posting for leval one is at 6th and 225, my bad
