Aurora Police are investigating a home invasion and shooting that took place in the 19100 block of E. Nassau Drive shortly after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said that the homeowners confronted one, and possibly two, suspects who were inside the residence possibly committing a burglary.

One homeowner was shot by a suspect in the upper body. The victim was transported to the hospital. His condition was not known.

Investigators are currently working on leads in this case.

Thunder Ridge and Eaglecrest High Schools, Horizon Middle School, and Summit, Sunrise and Cimarron Elementary Schools are all on secured perimeter status while police searched for the suspect. But that status was lifted as of 1:00 p.m.

Authorities briefly tightened security around seven Arapahoe County schools today as police searched for two suspects in a home-invasion shooting.

Aurora police said two suspects entered a home in the 19100 block of East Nassau Drive sometime before noon when they were confronted by homeowners. The burglars shot at least one of the homeowners, police said.

As the burglars fled, police issued security warnings to Eaglecrest High School; Sky Vista and ThunderRidge middle schools; and Sunrise, Cimarron, Summit and Aspen Crossing elementary schools.

About two hours later, Aurora police stopped two people for questioning about the burglary. Police would not confirm that they had taken the two suspects into custody, but they did confirm that the security had been lifted at the schools.

The schools were not locked down but had secured perimeters, which allowed parents and others to enter or leave with proper identification, said Cherry Creek School District spokeswoman Michelle Ancell.
