Well, lets hope it works!!!...Some say if they picked the certain protocal like Provoice etc, we can program some thing else in the scanner in place of them...Talked to a water dept employee on ham radio 147.21 the other day and he said the rep doing the system choosing will not discuss what will be installed....Aurora is great listening, they do very good work, our system here in Joliet is 15 years old and alot of the mobiles sound like crap and cannot hear each other....But, no money honey due to poor gambling boat revenue!!!!

This is going to be a well built system as its going to be a back bone to others. Think about the fact that they have a some portion budget for mess ups alredy. Bad history for previous system failures or other issues. Someone put some effort into this. And no I have a strong feeling that its going to be an open mode with some secure channels. So, don't rule it out yet. Interagency is big push for them and they had issues before where they could not raise a fire commander on his portable under the tower site. Think about what that says, I nearily seem him throw a sh** fit. The funny part or sad part about all this is that the firefighters portable worked fine in the same location. What was the difference, the model you may ask. Their are more reasons behind the decision as it age and fact that ^^ discountues everything (sorry my .02 cents) ended up screwing themselves.

So, I see it as a welcome change. I just hope that it works as well as should no matter who the providers is. Thats what it really comes down.

In the Dec issue of "Monitoring Times" in the "Scanning Report article there is a very well explained difficulty with using a "digital" system on "Fire Band on local depts...It states that with "fireground comm's" its backround noise that prevents the use of digital systems being used...Here in Joliet all the FG comm's are on the "ANALOG" trunking and are somewhat garbled, on digital this article states there almost impossible...This is a very serious factor in choosing digital...

I read the IAFF

I read the IAFF article posted on hear some 30 pages, now that was good reading, flowed and contain factual information with case study stuff.

Yea, analong or digital trunked for fg comms was never a brillant idea in any case. But, what are you going to do. Here have a old vhf radio or uhf radio on the scene. Why I like that idea its not practical.

Rember the basics first.........

I'm still laughing at my brillant admin fd that still has not firgured out the idea of more channels and spilting up 20-25 agencies amongest different channels. Their opearting as if their lake county without the quad's and without the repeater(s).And yet I hear almost everyday can you hear me now type traffic. So, much for the IAFF study that suggests using different channels for operations at a scene and not just using fg red because of the possibility of another agency working on it already. All bronze, no brains

I can wait until they firgure out that they better apply for a narrowband frequency with repeater perhaps to stay in compilance with the fcc upcoming mandate. hum....or wait till the last minute and hope. Because their divison wide repeater is going to have to be reconfirgued as well. Or perhaps they'll do everything over the cad that should be interseting.
