I thought it had been fixed. Is that not true? Is Auora still having problems?

I went back and look at the other thread (Aurora Radios) to see what was posted there. The post started on May 4 announcing there was a problem. On May 7 it was announced that most of the problems had been fixed. The last post was on May 10, the post that day is still skeptical of the fix. Since that day there have been no posts, no complaints.

In addition I thought Aurora gave MA Com a month to get it fixed. If anyone has any information, please post.

This Aurora thing is VERY political. The mayor has really given them 30 days (from when he said that) to "fix" it. They haven't paid for it yet, so they really could rip the whole thing. I suspect they won't, but you never know.

The magic fix was that they took channels out of service that are adjacent to Nextel channels, and they rotated the CCH to what looks like the least interfered with channel. The first part is a temporary measure and not a permanent fix.

It's really a blaming game now. Here's what doesn't make sense. They are using the same frequencies they had before, so the Moto. radios should have had the Nextel interference too. So if they didn't, then the M/A-Coms are more susceptible to front end overload then the Motos. were. They have much more signal overall from the new system then they did with the old, single site system, so they really should have less of a problem with Nextel unless the radios are worse. This may just be M/A-Com's scapegoat.

If there is an inherent problem with the system, my guess would be that they haven't ironed out the simulcast overlap issues. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Good question Rick. I haven't read anything in the paper lately.

back when the moto system was in place using the same freqs that the new ma-com system uses the system has sever interference. I would ride along with several of my buddies that work for aurora and the spectras would drop out all the time. In additon to that, the coverage was so poor in lots of areas of the ciity. Arapahoe crossing is a prime example. The moto system could not talk to that parking lot at all. When the new ma-com system went in with several new tower sites the coverage in that area was 100 percent.

So it has nothing to do with the ma-com vs moto issue. The old moto system had lots of nextel interference issues and it was complained about all the time.

Arapahoe Road and Parker Road. Was there last week. Wife loved Kohl's and the Border Bookstore.

Thanks Dave & Rick. I haven't been in that area for a long time. I hate the T-Rex mess, and never go any farther South than Alameda Ave.

I hear ya Jerry, I try to avoid the narrows like the plague - sometimes it's un-avoidable as the route my job takes me.

Update Request

Well it has almost been another full month. Anyone heard anymore on the Aurora Pro Voice problem.

Is there still a problem or not?

Aurora continues to sound perfect here, even across town. But I just monitor EMS & FD mainly.

I left the Aurora IT Department last January. If there was a fix, don't you think Mayor Pinhead and Baghdad Mark would have announced it. I have been in contact with Channel 7 but unfortunately they are on only interested in Public Safety issues during sweeps week.

Aurora's Provoice

From what I heard at the APCO conference it's at a stalemate. The rumor is that the City has hired an RF Engineer from Colorado Springs and is preparing their legal battle.

You have to take into consideration when the original TYPE I system went on the air in 1988 that the city had nothing annexed in that area.

They upgraded the system to IIi in late 1993 and increased the tower height and later setup public safety on the system. Again that area was not part of the city nor was it required to cover that area along with development along the E470 corridor.

The city went on an annexation binge and OUTGREW the IIi system and had no choice but to shop for a new system.

Around the time the city was soliciting bids the situation of N. Colorado and Arapahoe 800 systems being assimiliated by the borg and complaints about issues during the early deploymnet of the state system may have contributed to why they were looking elsewhere along with looking at interop with Denver. As one person put it "they want to be Just like Denver".

We will all have to wait and see how this all plays out. It would be a P.R. disaster for M/A to lose the city of Aurora.

Phil.
