Im looking to mount an Austin Spectra mag mount on the roof of my house, or attic, not sure which one yet. However the NMO mount has a 17' lead of RG58 cable ending in a BNC male connector, and i have to extend this to about 75', but the RG58 extension cables over 12' are UHF males to BNC males. Do i have to use the RG58 cable all the way? Cant seem to find any adaptors that will make this work.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Seventy-five feet is awfully long for RG 58 due to signal loss. Suggest you use RG 8 or similar for the longer run, Universal radio sells pre made cabling with your choice of connectors. Excellent quality and have never had any problems.
Would an LMR-240 cable be suitable?
LMR-240 is the same size as RG-58 and will have a little less loss, but still a bad idea for uhf. Go with LMR-400 (RG-8 size). I would also look in to a better connector for the RG-58 unless the BNC is going to
be inside, they are weatherproof, but only to a point.

You might want to invest in a Larsen NMO ground plane kit...check out AES website, I believe they sell them on there.
